This place has such an aura of peace that we used to think that we would like to keep it a secret, but that would be mean.
We share it with the birds and the red squirrels and consider ourselves very privileged to be here. The swans bring their cygnets to show us their family and in the evening, as the sun sets across the river, the pike slap the surface with their tails to declare that this is really their territory.
If you understand what I mean by this, then there is every likelihood that you will also find this “peace” for yourself.
We would like to share it with you.
If you are looking for a gite where you can sit in the evening and sip a glass of red, while watching the sun go down across your secluded river view, after a hard day searching for restaurants and wine producers in Burgundy, then this may be just right!
The main attraction of this cottage is the balcony, which has a canopy of leaves, so it is almost like sitting in a treehouse, with a view across the Saone. There is not another house in sight, so you can watch the Herons and Kingfishers at play between the riverbanks.
You may have to consider the traffic of red squirrels who habitually use the balcony as their route across the garden.
Or perhaps take advantage of the close proximity of the riverbank and enjoy a spot of fishing.
The levels of each room (lounge, bedroom, dining cave, bathroom and balcony) are different and remember: people were smaller back then!
Each room has steps, so as well as being part of the character, it also means wheelchairs won't work.
It is furnished with heavy oak and walnut furniture and a period fireplace where the objective is to relax, read or spend a romantic evening.
There is a private garden immediately in front of the cottage with a built in BBQ.
The Riverview Cottage is under renovation at the moment, and up to date photographs will be placed on this site in April, or as completed.
It will only be available, as a gite, for July and August 2012.
TV and Internet Access are available in the adjacent Riverside Cottage, so if you need these facilities please consider the other unit.
The Riverview Cottage is for you to do exactly that: Relax and Retreat and Regard the passing River wildlife.
We also have electromagnetic therapy on site to deal with pain, depression and ailments at our "Salon de Bien Être".
Please ask for details.
If you like Nature, you will not be disappointed.
This property is situated right on the banks of the Sâone River in the rural village of Pouilly-sur-Sâone. The river is zoned for sailing activities and there is no commercial barge traffic here. Occasional pleasure boats pass by and the property is a good place to meet with friends who live on, or who are hiring boats or barges.
There are two gites here, one called the Riverside Cottage and the other called the Riverview Cottage.
The Riverside Cottage is available from May to to the end of October.
The Riverview Cottage is available for July and August.
The village has a bakery, village shop, hairdresser and post office/bank all within two minutes walking distance.
The nearby village of Seurre (3kms) has several supermarkets, a wide range of shops and a train station. Access to the motorway system is 4 kms away.
The property lies between the towns of Beaune, Dole and Dijon.
Beaune, which is the centre of the Burgundy wine area, is 22 kilometres by road which passes through open farming land. There are hundreds of wine growers here with cellars where they offer information about, and tasting of, their products. Restaurants, Chateaux and museums abound both in the town and are also found in the surrounding countryside.
Dole, known for its connections with Louis Pasteur, is 32 kilometres away. This is a very attractive historical town on the waterway system of France.
Dijon is the centre of the Bourgogne and is historically and culturally fascinating. It is 40 kilometres distant, along a network of rural roads and villages.
The Abby of Citeaux is 12 kilometres away, famous for its historical cistercian order.
Although there are bus and train services available, the best way to enjoy the surrounding area is by car, bicycle or motorcycle.
See Local guide and map for information on nearby towns and facilities.
The village of Pouilly-sur-Saone is 5 kilometres from the No1 exit of the A36 motorway, which connects to the motorway system in all directions.
Dijon (40 Kms) is the main connection point to the High Speed Train (TGV) system of France.
Seurre (3 kilometres) connects to the National Train system.
Calais is 624 kilometres away on the highway system which bypasses Paris, so the travel time from Calais is from five to six hours depending on rest stops. The closest large airport is Lyon 160 kilometres away, and the regional airports of Dijon, Beaune and Tavaux are within 40 kilometres.
See Local guide and map for information on nearby towns and airports.
