Home description

Set amid the rolling Suisse Normande landscape, this charming property has been renovated by its friendly English owners, who live in the adjoining property.

There is a large garden with beautiful flowers and shrubs and 1/2 acre of lawned area. A patio and your own secluded garden offer breathtaking views over the Orne Valley as you relax with an al fresco meal or glass of wine. The property and its grounds draw enthusiastic comments from guests.

This delightful cottage is part of a major barn conversion and has been providing relaxing and highly enjoyable holidays for guests for six years. 

Ground floor

• Bedroom 1 - a twin bedroom with ample storage space.
• Bathroom - large room with a bath, shower, w.c. and washbasin. This room also contains the washing machine.

First floor

There is a large open-plan living room, with a well equipped corner kitchen and separate dining area.

• Living room area - has satellite TV receiving the free-to-air English channels and there is also a DVD player and CD-based hi-fi unit. A woodburning stove provides a cosy warmth if the evenings turn chilly. Alternatively, electric convector heaters provide background warmth as needed.
• Kitchen area - has lots of cupboard space as well as a fridge, a gas cooker with an oven, grill and four rings, and a microwave oven.
• Dining area - seats four comfortably, but there are also three choices of outdoor dining areas offering a variety of sun and shade, and some glorious views, which include lovely orange sunsets as you sip wine on the large terrace.
• Bedroom 2 - double bedroom with ample storage in wardrobes and drawer units.
• Bedroom 3 - single bedroom also with ample storage in wardrobes and drawer units.

Outside

Le Nid's outdoor spaces are very popular with guests. Your own private gravelled floral courtyard provides peace and tranquility and a chance to spot the many varieties of birds that frequent the barn and grounds. In addition, the large gravelled parking area makes an excellent "boules" pitch, and the half acre of lawned area is ideal for ball games of all kinds.

Sunbeds, parasols and a gas barbecue are all provided, to ensure that "days in" at Le Nid du Roitelet can be just as enjoyable as the Suisse Normande's attractive tourism opportunities.

About the location

The small village of Esson (population 300) is 2km from the market town of Thury Harcourt, which has a range of shops and restaurants, an aquatic centre, tennis and canoeing. Esson itself is on a national walking route (Grande Randonnee GR36).

Only 8km away is the pretty village of Clecy, with its attractive riverside bars, excellent golf course, rowing boats, pedaloes and canoes, and activity centres. Popular activities there include climbing, hang-gliding, walking, riding and cycling.

Caen, Bayeux, Lisieux, Deauville, Caborg, the D-Day landing beaches and Falaise (birthplace of William the Conqueror) are all within easy reach. Slightly further afield are Mont St Michel (75 minutes drive) and Monet's Garden at Giverny (90 minutes).

How to get here

The cottage is convenient for the ports of Caen (40 minutes), Le Havre (75 minutes), Cherbourg (2 hours), Dieppe (2-1/2 hours). From the ports of Calais and Boulogne or the Channel tunnel crossing, allow about 3-1/2 hours. There are Ryanair flights from Stansted to Dinard (2 hours drive away). Trains from Paris to Caen take 1hr45mins. Esson is just off the main road D562 between Caen and Flers, located about 20km south of the Caen ringroad (peripherique).
