Self Catering or All Inclusive Holiday in the Ardêche

Commanding dramatic views over the Rhone Valley to the French Alps La Mirande sits in perfect isoloation on a plateau 700m above sea level. Surrounded by farm land 6,000m2 of private orchard and garden, it is an island of great tranquility. Even though the house is spacious it offers a very warm living situation. La Mirande is part of an old farm house first built over 200 years ago. It has been renovated using the skills of local artisans who have a deep respect and understanding of the traditional building techniques of the region. The interiors however reflect more contemporary standards of design.

The nearest town, Privas is only 15mn drive away and offers everything from country markets to high class super markets

Bed & Breakfast Accommodation at The Garden Suite

The Garden Suite-Farmhouse Bed and Breakfast. Accomodation in the Ardeche with daily excursions - all meals included - professional tour guide to introduce you to this beautiful region and destination further south.

My focus with the "La Mirande above it all" holiday idea is directed towards clients who for various reasons do not want to drive all the way to France or contend with driving on the ‘wrong side of the road’. I pick you up at the Valence station after an easy train trip with the Euro Star, London - Lille and the TGV Lille – Valence. From that time on till I bring you back to the station for your return journey home you can forget about driving, finding your way in a different country and dealing with summer traffic. Which of course is also on the ‘wrong side of the road.’

All inclusive does not only mean all your meals and the accompanying wine but also to be invited to partake in daily excursions. There are so many wonderful things to see in this beautiful corner of France. The way this works could not be simpler. In the evening before dinner as we enjoy an aperitif with a glass of wine and a taste of some locale charcuiterie I explain the possibilities that we have for the next day and we all decide which one of these interesting excursions we would like to do. In the morning after breakfast with a fully packed picnic hamper we set off on our adventure. In the late afternoon we return to La Mirande in enough time to prepare for dinner. (I would be delighted to give you more detailed information and examples of these excursions.)

Communal Social Areas

One of the main attractions of the house is its open living area with original stone walls and a 7m high wood ceiling. A centrally placed monumental open fireplace becomes the point of focus in this dramatic open space. A mezzanine gallery runs around this central space, which was originally the barn of the old farm house. It accesses an intimate lounge, a library with a fascinating collection of books and a well-equipped office for those unfortunate people who are followed by their work. It also supplies the access to The Orient Suite. The dining area is found on the ground floor and the famous monumental fire place provides a wonderful setting for after dinner coffee and liquor.

I spent about 8 weeks on this marvellous spot. It s a place where we can recover and let go of stress from everyday life. This energetic landscape gave me inspiration for my art and studies. The quietness gives me space to practise meditation in the nature of this wonderful garden. I hope many people will come and enjoy the space with you, Gray, as well as by their own. Thank You! Claudia

Our arrival was rather fraught as no one was there to let us in. However, we received a warm welcome when the owner arrived half an our later. The accommodation was very well equipped and there was a lot of space. The only area of the property we wen't that keen on was the sleeping area which required care when entering or exiting especially late at night!

The informal meal we were booked into in the next village was one of the best meals we have ever had in France. We think the owner should send everyone there! We were lent maps and guide books which was good. Perhaps the owner should prepare a book of local info to leave in the accommodation.

Overall we had a very positive experience and are thinking of returning soon.
