Two Peaceful Stone Gites with Pool near to Mirepoix

Nestling at the base of the hill village of Lafage with views of the sunflower fields beyond the garden, Retreat Gites is just a 10 minute drive from the bustling medieval market town of Mirepoix. In an area where local and organic farmers abound, making meal times a real treat!

The two pretty gites are converted from the 18th century stone barn of a large village house which is adjacent. With almost an acre of garden, including areas for children to play, and shady seating under mature trees to while away the sunny days, the all important swimming pool (10mx6m) is all one depth and has two sets of large steps, ideal for children, surrounded by a fabulous deck for sunbathing!

The gites are light and spacious and have recently been completely renovated to a high standard with much attention to detail, whilst retaining their rustic charm.

Retreat Gites is the perfect year round base for exploring the cities of Toulouse and Carcassonne as well as the many other attractions in the area.

Or just laze around the pool enjoying the peace! 

Holiday Accommodation at Cottage One

Comfortable and charming, recently renovated to a high standard and maintaining most of the rustic features. Many of the beautiful old stone walls are visible in the rooms. Cottage one is furnished with a good mix of modern and traditional furniture, set over three floors.

Ground Floor

• Open plan salle de sejour with fully equipped modern kitchen with a glass door to the private terrace.
• Shower room with wc and handbasin.

First Floor

• Pretty double bedroom with views over the garden to the sunflower fields beyond.
• Large family bathroom with bath/shower, bidet, wc, handbasin and towel storage.
• Pretty twin bedroom with views to the front of the cottage.

Second Floor

• Sleep beneath the stars under the rooflight of the large comfortable master bedroom or
• Peacefully read in the cosy seating area under the eaves, with views of the garden.

Outside

The private terrace has garden furniture, a barbeque and a large parasol to shade diners on long hot summer days. A gateway leads down a gravel path bordered by lavender to the pool.

About Lafage in Aude, Languedoc Roussillon

Lafage is a sleepy, quaint typically French hill village built in the 18th century from local honey coloured stone. Originally a chateau existed here but now all that remains is a beautifully restored tower.

The village is surrounded by unspoilt countryside, sunflower fields and rolling hills, with spectacular views of the magical mountains of the Pyrenees.

Just a ten minute (12km) scenic drive from the medieval market town of Mirepoix with a good selection of cafes, restaurants, and shops as well as the bustling monday morning market.

Castelnaudary, famous for its local dish cassoulet and the home of the Foreign Legion.  The Canal du Midi runs through the town with boats for hire or explore the shady,tree-lined towpath by foot and bike.

Forty minutes from Carcassonne le cite, medieval Cathar fortress. Explore the narrow cobbled streets, ramparts and museums. Full of interesting shops and restaurants within its walls. Equally as beautiful is the town of Carcassonne with a plethora of shops and restaurants and a delightful square full of pavement cafes and a tinkling fountain. Perfect for watching the world go by with a long cool drink.

Fifty minutes from the ski slopes of Mont d`Olmes with wintersports from December to April and a variety of mountain sports to try in the summer months.

One hour from the pink city of Toulouse great for shopping, art galleries and rugby.

One hour and fifteen minutes from the sandy mediterranean beaches of Narbonne.

How To Get To Lafage in Aude, South of France and the Riviera

By plane:

• Carcassonne Salvaza is the nearest airport with plenty of flights provided by Ryanair from the UK.
• Toulouse Blagnac is an hour away by autoroute.
• Perpignan Rivesaltes is1.5 hours away again an easy drive by autoroute.
• All the air ports have car hire offices.

By train:

• Castelnaudary has the closest railway station with trains going east to Toulouse and  west to Narbonne.

By Car:

• Or enjoy a long drive through France with a stopover somewhere interesting!
