Welcome to the 'Pays de l’Homme' where you will discover the more prestigious prehistoric sites!

At Les Menthes Sauvages you will receive a warm welcome and have an unforgettablen holiday. The property is an old farm built in the local stone, fully restored to retain its original character of the stone walls and exposed beams but benefiting from all the comforts of modern living. The two gîtes were once the old farm buildings and provide the ideal place for holidaying as individuals, or for a shared family holiday occupying both gîtes and retaining an amount of privacy. They have recently been renovated.

Les Menthes Sauvages sits in gardens of 4000 m2 and includes a bowls area (pétanque) and has access to many pleasant walks in the nearby forests. The 13 x 9 meters swimming pool is fenced and equipped with an electronic alarm to conform to the new safety standards. Sun loungers are arranged around the pool for those just wishing to relax in the sun.

Les Menthes Sauvages consists of a house and a barn. The owners now live in the house. The barn, built in 1789, has been converted into two adjoining gites, each for 4 people. They are restored to a high standard and retain the original exposed beams and stone walls.

Each gite has a kitchen/living area, and a separate WC on the ground floor. On the first floor there are two bedrooms and a bathroom. Each gite is also fully equipped and has a dishwasher and washing machine. The terraces overlook the beautiful countryside and have garden furniture and barbecue. A shady parking area has also been created near the properties.

The beautiful landscape is undulating and offers activities such as walking, cycling and horse riding, with canoeing, kayaking and trips on a 'gabarre' available on the river Dordogne.

La Treille is a pretty stone cottage which overlooks the swimming pool.

• Kitchen/living room - the gîte is well equipped with electric hob, fridge/freezer, microwave, electric oven, dishwasher and washing machine. There is a wood burning stove (wood will be provided for the cooler months). The cosy kitchen/living area opens onto the terrace.

• Twin bedroom - with 2 single beds
• Bathroom - with basin and a large shower

There are electric radiators upstairs.

About the location

Les Menthes Sauvages, located in a quiet country hamlet 2 km from the centre of Le Buisson de Cadouin, is equidistant from Bergerac and the medieval town of Sarlat. Just 4 km away is the pretty village of Limeuil which belongs to the most beautiful villages of France and where the rivers of the Dordogne and Vezere join. 

Le Buisson de Cadouin offers many amenities such as bakeries, butchers, minimarket, chemist, post office, doctors surgery and cinema.

We are situated in 'le Pays des Bastides' . The bastides are the fortified towns in the south west of France founded in 1261 to 1316 as 'new cities' by the French and English kings during the 100 years war. The finest and best preserved of the Perigord’s English bastides is Monpazier. 

Domme, Eymet, Beaumont-du-Perigord are others all meriting a visit.

Within a radius of 30km around Les Menthes Sauvages it is possible to visit about 20 castles, for example, Beynac (the set for numerous films), Les Milandes (the home of Josephine Baker) and Castelnaud. The Perigord offers a wealth of tourist attractions such as the cave paintings at Lascaux, the caves of Les Eyzies de Tayac (the world capital of prehistory) and La Roque St Christophe. Not forgetting the medieval towns of Sarlat and Beynac to name but two. 

A visit of the most interesting is also that of the Cistercian Abbey of the twelfh century and its Renaissance Cloister of the fifteenth century in Cadouin, which was also a former pilgrimage renowned.
