  • The second door from the hall takes you into a very spacious and bright drawing room.  There is a collection of quality leather furnishing, a glass coffee table, a baby grand piano, and CD player/radio. The log fire gives the room a great ambiance in winter. There are 2 sets of French doors leading out to the terrace.
  • A staircase leads up to a mezzanine floor area which is equipped with a quality surround sound TV, which receives English TV package. There is also a DVD and a Video player with approx 80 films available from Winnie the Pooh to The Full Monty. There are lockable child safety gates at both the bottom and top of the stairs that lead to this mezzanine floor to prevent access to very young children.
  • Leading from the drawing room, through an archway, the dining room is furnished with a wrought iron dining table and chairs and a glass display unit. The third door from the main entrance hall leads you into a corridor where there is a large utility room containing a washing machine, ironing facilities and the house cleaning materials.
  • Along the corridor there is a bathroom with a bath, over head shower and double sinks, there is a completely separate toilet.

About Torderes in Pyrénées-Orientales, Languedoc Roussillon

The villa is situated in the very peaceful rural village of Torderes, which is located  only a few minutes drive from the local village of Fourques, where you will find a patisserie, butcher, chemist, bar and post office.

The villa is between two of the more select towns of the region namely Thuir, which is about a 10 minute drive, and Ceret a 20 minute drive. In both towns you will find large supermarkets, great restaurants, cafes, bars, art galleries and museums, in fact everything you might require. The street markets on Saturday mornings in either location are an absolute must.

Equally not to be missed are the stunning Mediterranean beaches, of which there is a choice of 20 kms of soft sandy beaches from Bacares to Argeles.

Further south where the Pyrenees meets the Mediterranean, nestling amongst the vineyards are secluded coves of sand with colourful rock pools. Collioure and Banyulles can be found here and have attractive harbours with castles, museums, restaurants, and cafes.

The museum at Tautavel is where you will find the skeletons of some of the first inhabitants known to man. The Cathar castles built on shear cliff tops are stunning and are very interesting to visit.

If you venture further South the Spanish boarder town of Le Perthus offers tax free shopping, which is very popular and only a thirty minute drive away. Spain is so close with the Bay of Roses, and the Salvadore Dali Museum within an hours drive.

Walks in the Alberes Mountains are all approximately 25 minutes drive away with many opportunities for horse riding.

The winter ski resorts of the Pyrenees are approximately one and a half hours drive away.

Half way there is the fortified walled town of Villefranche de Conflant, set in a mountain pass with lovely shops and cafes. A short walk from here are incredible caves going deep into the mountains which are great for the whole family. There is a narrow gauge mountain railway which can be boarded here. The unique Petite Train Jaune (little yellow train) will take you up to Font Romeu and beyond into the high mountains.

These are a few examples of the diverse choice of days out and places to visit in and around this area. There are leaflets at the villa which will give a more detailed insight into the attractions available.
