Domaine la Castagne is a lovely, converted Lauragais farm, set in 2 acres of beautiful and tranquil grounds, surrounded by fantastic rural countryside, situated midway between Toulouse and Carcassonne (both airports 45 mins).

The property is only 7km from local shops and restaurants. The thriving market towns of Castelnaudary ,Villefranche-de- Lauragais and Revel with their weekly markets, restaurants and all amenities are just 15 minutes drive away.

Each comfortable and well equipped gite  features an open plan living/dining/kitchen area, bathroom with shower and private garden or terrace with BBQ and outdoor furniture.

There is a large south facing enclosed pool, shady gardens to relax in and children's play area with swings, trampoline, table tennis,  badminton and table football.There are bikes available to borrow  and a pétanque court.

Ideally situated to explore historic Cathar country with numerous castles and abbeys,the UNESCO world heritage site of the medieval cité of Carcassonne is nearby. Another UNESCO site, the Canal du Midi ,where you can cycle ,walk or take a boat trip is only 10 minutes away. Visit the vineyards of Languedoc and sample the local wines or simply relax and enjoy the pool and gardens.

Walking, cycling, tennis, golf, caves, bathing and sailing lake are all within easy reach with mediterranean beaches, and the Pyrenees (skiing in winter) 75 minutes away for days out.

Accommodation detail

Corbières is a two storey converted stable with its own private garden and parking for one car alongside the property.

There is additional parking available in the car park.

• French doors lead into an open plan living/dining/kitchen area which includes a comfortable sofa, armchairs and a dining table to accomodate 7 people.
• The fully equipped kitchen includes an electric cooker, microwave, fridge-freezer, dishwasher and washing machine.
• There is a TV (French) DVD player and CD/Radio.
• Downstairs is one double bedroom along with the shower room and separate toilet with washbasin.
• Upstairs a mezzanine bedroom with twin beds leads through to the second family bedroom with 1 double & 1 single bed. 
• Outside ,in the private garden, there are a dining table & chairs,parasol,loungers and a BBQ.

This property accommodates 7 people (+ cot if requested.)

About the location

La Castagne is situated at the foot of the historic  village of  Montmaur. A 12th century chateau and church dominate the village, which is surrounded by fields of wheat and sunflowers.

The village of La Bastide D’Anjou just 7 mins drive from the property has a boulangerie, butcher, tabac, doctors, pharmacy, hairdresser and three restaurants.

The historic village of St Felix de Lauragais just 10 mins drive away has an artisan boulangerie, and two restaurants.

There is one  Michelin star rated restaurant within 15 minutes of the property.

Local Attractions

Revel: Just a fifteen minute drive to the North is the thriving bastide town of Revel with its famous Saturday market and many ‘Art Meubles’ furniture workshops .

Castelnaudary: Set on the basin of the Canal du Midi with all amenities and a Monday market, Castelnaudary is situated just 15 minutes to the east of Domaine La Castagne. This capital of the regional speciality dish 'Cassoulet' has numerous restaurants where you can partake of this local delicacy.

Canal du Midi: This UNESCO world heritage site is only 10 minutes away and is excellent for walking and cycling ,with a cycle path that extends from Castelnaudary to Toulouse.

Toulouse: 'La Ville Rose' home to Airbus and the high tech 'cité d'espace'. From churches, museums and art galleries to designer shops and restaurants ,Toulouse has much to offer.

Carcassonne: This fairytale UNESCO world heritage site with the 13th century medieval castle must not be missed.

Further Afield

Albi: Birthplace of Toulouse -Lautrec.

The Mediterranean: Just over 75 minutes drive, head for Narbonne Plage or explore the many tiny fishing villages along the coast towards Spain.

The Pyrenees: Walk in summer or ski in winter, our nearest ski station Mont d'Olmes is just over an hours drive away.

Andorra: If duty free shopping attracts then a trip to neighbouring Andorra should not be missed.

• By air: There is easy access to Domaine la Castagne using a variety of airlines, with Carcassonne airport just 40 minutes away (51km) and Toulouse airport 45 minutes drive (58km)
• Nearest train station: Villefranche de Lauragais 14km (15 mins)
• By car: Domaine La Castagne is situated at the foot of  the historic village of Montmaur just  7km (8 mins) off the A61 and N113.and only 15 minutes drive from the motorway network serving the South of France.
