Detached Stone Cottage in an elevated Village Setting

A charming, cosy, detached stone cottage, ideal for all seasons, set across the courtyard from the owners' 18th century 'presbytere' in an elevated village setting just 7 kilometres from the fine mediaeval town of Semur-en-Auxois.   In the midst of a thriving farming community with lovely views of rolling hills and meadlowland to the south, and with the River Armancon winding its way through the valley below.

Montigny-sur-Armancon has the benefit of a network of designated footpaths in all directions including one which, in a few minutes, brings you down to the beautiful Lac de Pont where a woodland path takes you alongside the lake, and indeed for the more energetic, around the lake (a walk of approximately 13 kilometres). The towpaths alongside the nearby canals offer more opportunities for walking or cycling.

Walled courtyard with garden furniture.  Stone steps lead from courtyard to private south-facing garden with garden furniture and BBQ.  A washing machine, tumble dryer, airer and ironing facilities are to be found in the cellar which is approached from the courtyard.

About Montigny Sur Armancon in Côte-d'Or, Burgundy

Well Cottage is situated in the heart of the village of Montigny-sur-Armancon just 7 kilometres from the charming mediaeval town of Semur-en-Auxois with its ancient fortifications, imposing gothic church, ramparts, museums and cobbled streets. Semur-en-Auxois will provide all your daily needs with a good selection of shops including 2 supermarkets, cafes and restaurants.

Nearby is Alise-Sainte-Reine,  the site of the famous battle between Julius Caesar and Vercingetorix where today one can visit the famous archaeological digs and the Alesia museum.  Next to Alise-Sainte-Reine is the fascinating hilltop village of Flavigny where 'Chocolat' was filmed.

A 40-minute drive will bring you to the fine city of Dijon, capital of 'The Dukes of Burgundy' with its Ducal Palace ancient town houses,  galleries, and museums as well as its excellent food and antiques market which is held at 'Les Halles, every Tuesday, Friday and Saturday. A drive through the stunning countryside of the Morvan Regional Park offers, for nature lovers, wide open spaces, lakes and forests and plenty of leisure activities and opportunities for observing wildlife. The busy little town of Saulieu, gateway to the Regional Park, is renowned for its famous restaurants, and the hilltop village of Vezelay where the Basilica (now a world heritage site) is a must.

Beaune, and its surrounding area, contain well-known treasures for wine lovers such as can be found at the chateau cellars at Mersault and Puligny-Montrachet and there are many other lesser-known vineyards to be discovered and wines to be tasted.

For golfers there is an excellent golf course at the Hotel Chateau de Chailly near Pouilly en Auxois (a 25-minute drive) where lunch or dinner can be enjoyed at either of their two restaurants.

How To Get To Montigny Sur Armancon in Côte-d'Or, Central France

Easily reached from the A6 (junction 23). 

Nearest station is at Montbard (25 minutes) where the TGV will take you to Paris in 1hour 15 minutes.

Approx. 530 kilometres from Calais - journey time approx. 6 hours.
