The accommodation in this elegantly furnished provence-style villa is ideal for 6 people with or without children, and comprises:
Plan de la Tour is a traditional French provencal village. The village is one of the very few working villages to be found anywhere near the coast on the entire 'French Riviera'. It is surrounded by vineyards and Mediterranean woodland including oaks, pines, olives, mimosa and chestnut trees.
It is one of the remaining jewels of unspoiled Provence with its old lanes, terracotta roofs and ancient bell tower. Despite its timeless charm, it still has all the amenities one could wish for. There are two grocery stores, four boulangeries, a charcuterie, a tourist office, a pharmacy, tabac, two bars and a host of marvellous restaurants to satisfy every palate. There are english speaking doctors in the village, and english newspapers can be bought on the day of issue. There are working vineyards on the edge of the village, and cellar-door outlets for those who want to try the local wines.
On Thursday mornings the village hosts its regional market fair. Other local village markets include St-Tropez, Port Grimaud, Grimaud, Cogolin, and La Garde Freinet. These markets sell locally produced foods, clothing and handicrafts.
Boules and tennis can be played in the village of Plan de la Tour, and there are 4 excellent golf courses nearby. The village also has a children’s playground, a riding stables and frequent musical soirees and other events.
The countryside around Plan de la Tour is picturesque with stunning views of the Gulf of St Tropez from the higher village lanes. It is superbly isolated from the hustle and bustle of the coastal resorts during peak tourist seasons, but its close proximity, via country lanes, allows easy access when desired. The village can be accessed from either the Le Luc/Le Muy exits (30-40 min drive) of the A8 motorway, direction St Tropez/Ste Maxime respectively. A8 provides easy access to all the main attractions on the Cote d’Azur.
In the heart of the Maures hills but close to the sea Le Plan de la Tour has kept its authenticity.
This little village built around its bell tower is composed of 25 hamlets spread over the commune. Le Plan de la Tour is a quiet and charming village, an ideal place for a long siesta under the shady plane trees to the rhythm of the cicadas. But if you feel like moving it is only 9 km from the coast and all the activities. Vineyards stretch all over the commune and produce quality prize-winning wines (red, rosé and white).
In the 14th century, the village was ravaged by wars and the Plague, and then finally abandoned. Repopulating began in 1557 on the initiative of the abbeys of Thoronet, who owned the village at the time.
In the 16th century, in these wide plains with their abundant springs - which continue to flow even during the summer drought - several farming settlements appeared. Initially housing members of the same family, these farm buildings subsequently spread to become today's small hamlets.
Saint-Martin, which forms the centre of the current village, became the seat of the community. During the Revolution, the village requested separation from La Garde Freinet and Plan de la Tour was made independent on May 26, 1792.
In the village, there are 6 restaurants – Le Tour du Plan, Le Vieux Moulin, L’Arbousier , L’Aioli, and Les Deux Fontaines – this one has fluent English speaking owners. There is also a take-away pizza restaurant in the village, and another one Pizza Mia , just a couple of miles back along the road to Ste Maxine on the left hand side.
The ‘Cave des Maures’ has a big breakfast/wine tasting on Sunday mornings in the summer with traditional music, and free bread and cheese/ham from 9am – 12.30.
On Friday evenings (around 9pm) there is music in the restaurant ‘Le Jas des Robert’ – a really good party atmosphere in the summer. To get there, take the mountain road to Grimaud (i.e) from the village of Plan de la Tour, turn right where signed Grimaud and follow the road staying right at the only fork. When you get to the main road (Ste Maxime to Grimaud), turn left, and the restaurant is about 400 – 600 yards on the left hand side up a track. It is opposite ‘Le Coustellaine’ – another good restaurant.
‘Jas de Robert’ also hosts one of the biggest ‘Brocantes’ (these are like car boot sales, but rather more up-market, containing antiques as well as bric-a-brac) each Sunday morning, commencing from 8.30/9am, and finishing around lunchtime.
There is a superb restaurant in a small village La Mole (just West of Cogolin), called ‘Auberge de la Mole’, which is open for lunch and dinner in the summer. In neighbouring La Garde Freinet there is ‘Le Faucado’, which is also considered to be a very good restaurant.

The nearest airports are Nice and Tulon. In either case head along the autoroute to the A8. Then at junction36 take the D25/125 direction to St Tropez.
There are 2 turnings off this road to Plan de la Tour - the first is marked 'Scenic Route', and is slow with a great many bends. Take the second one, which is around 18kms from the Autoroute, the D74.
After approx 5.5kms, you come to a roundabout at the edge of the village of Plan de la Tour.
