Home description

Sainte Cecile is a large farmhouse situated on the top of a hill with splendid views over the surrounding countryside.

A large swimming pool is complimented by a smaller toddler pool and the large garden means there are many areas to sit and relax.

The property is three kilometres from the nearest village and there is no other house in sight.

There is always plenty to do - whether it be simply lazing in the hammock in the garden, picking figs from one of four fig trees or more energetic pursuits like shopping in Montpellier or going wine tasting.

Sainte Cecile is right in the middle of one of the most popular holiday destinations in France, combining beach, mountains and countryside. Half an hour away is the idyllic port town of Marseillan, often described as St Tropez of fifty years ago.

A short walk from Sainte Cecile is our almond grove where, depending on the season, you can pick almonds or just lie in the shade of the trees after a picnic lunch. All around the house there are beautiful walks, either on small country tracks or through vineyards. The views from the various hills around us are stunning.

If you're into cycling you couldn't pick a better spot. There is a gruelling but splendid circuit from the house that takes about an hour and takes you up into the mountains past a local goat farm where you can stock up on some cheese before cycling home again.

A large and beautiful five bedroom farmhouse with its own land as far as you can see.

The garden boasts several seating areas and a large swimming pool, as well as a small one for toddlers and babies.

Sainte Cecile is home to author and journalist Helena Frith Powell, her writer husband Rupert Wright and their children who are all living in Abu Dhabi at the moment.

The house is extremely nicely furnished, as is the garden. There is not a plastic chair in sight. As it is our home, everything has been done to make it as comfortable and  as attractive as possible.

The interior is comfortable, all linen is of the highest standard. There are swings in the garden. The terrace has a beautiful marble table with ten chairs.

About the location

The property is three kilometres from the nearest village where there is a shop, bar, post office, bakers and newsagents. There are restaurants in a slightly bigger village five minutes away as well as a huge choice of places to eat and drink in Pezenas, 20 minutes away.

Pezenas has a very busy and good market in every Saturday.

The closest cities are Montpellier and Beziers, where there are museums, cathedrals, cinemas etc.

The coast is a half hour drive.
