Luxurious and romantic, couples only gite accommodation in the heart of “La France profonde”. Each gite has a new, comfortable king size bed and high quality Egyptian cotton linen.

Just 8 kms from the Bastide town of Lalinde in the Dordogne Valley and 25 minutes drive from Bergerac airport, La Terre des Bois provides the perfect place for couples to unwind, relax and explore the beautiful countryside of South West France. An oasis of tranquillity and relaxation, La Terre des Bois provides a peaceful and harmonious base for those wishing to discover the many attractions of the area or indeed those just wishing to unwind by the pool with a good book and a glass of wine – this is, after all, the finest wine producing region in the world!  Whatever your interests, be they visiting great Premier Cru Chateaux, pre-historic cave paintings, walking, cycling, canoeing, horse riding, golf and much, much more; all are within easy reach of our lovely property.  Of course, you may not be able to tear yourself away from an afternoon relaxing by the pool listening to the birds singing and watching the butterflies.

With only four one bedroom gites, thoughtfully laid out in the spacious grounds, La Terre des Bois never feels crowded.  Whether you “want to be alone” or make new friends is entirely up to you. The clever lay out of the pool terraces gives everyone a sense of space and privacy but guests wishing to get together for a meal or a drink will find plenty of communal space.

Each gite is furnished and equipped to a very high standard.  A mixture of typical French styling together with modern appliances lends a real home from home feel. All gites have full sized cookers, fridges and microwaves together with all the kitchenware needed to create a wonderful meal using those delicious purchases from the local market!  Plenty of good quality cutlery, crockery and glasses ensure that you will have everything you need during your stay.  Each gite has a radio/CD player together with a TV and DVD player.  Of course one of the most important aspects of a perfect holiday is a good nights’ sleep.  Three of our gites have kingsize (160 cm) beds whilst Le Pavillon has a super kingsize (180 cm) bed with the option to be arranged as two singles.  All beds are dressed with 400 thread count finest Egyptian cotton linen to ensure that you sleep comfortably and peacefully. In addition to all bed linen, we provide towels and pool towels for use during your stay. Each gite has its own private terrace with barbecue.  Le Pavillon has its own washing machine, whilst a further two washing machines and a tumble dryer are available for guests’ use in the pool room.

Pool Room

Situated by the main pool, the pool room is equipped with two washing machines and a tumble dryer.  There is also a fridge and plastic glasses/dining ware for drinks by the pool.  A fridge allows for plenty of nicely chilled white wine!  Here is where you will find our DVD library together with lots of local information and a selection of books, magazines and games.

Lalinde, only a few minutes away, lies on the banks of the River Dordogne and is a typical French Bastide town with its square, restaurants, boules “pitch” and small local shops. The colourful weekly market is on Thursday mornings and is not to be missed; here one can purchase fresh local produce including cheeses, pate and wine. Lalinde also has a bike hire centre, great for exploring the miles of woodland tracks that surround the property.  For the less energetic there are plenty of lovely forest walks. Spring here starts early with fabulous warm days in March, April and early May, followed by long hot summers and glorious, colourful, autumn weather.

Holiday Accommodation at Le Pavillon

Le Pavillon is set away in a lightly wooded area of the grounds with a separate entrance driveway. Surrounded by its own private garden, the sunny terrace gives access to a private plunge pool. Guests may also use the main swimming pool.

Le Pavillon also benefits from a lovely shaded “abri”, complete with table and chairs and barbecue where guests can enjoy a meal in the shade. All on one level, Le Pavillon would be ideal for guests with mobility problems. 

The delightful open plan living/dining area leads into a fully equipped kitchen complete with washing machine.

French windows at either end of the building provide access to sunny terraces at all times of the day.

The bedroom is furnished with a super kingsize bed (180 cms wide) that can be arranged as two single beds if desired.  There is ample wardrobe space.  Off the bedroom is an ensuite shower room and WC.

This delightful gite is perfect for couples seeking a truly romantic and private getaway. Radio/CD player, TV and DVD player. 

The gite has a high standard of internal decoration and furnishings with some antique pieces, contributing to a traditional French ambiance.

All linen, including high quality Egyptian cotton bedlinen, is supplied and towels are provided.

About Grand Castang in Dordogne, Aquitaine

Lalinde is a peaceful Bastide Town just 8 kms (5 miles) away. All basic shopping needs are covered in the town– including 2 boulangeries, an excellent butcher, a post office, several banks, an atmospheric Thursday morning market and of course a boules piste! There is also an Intermarché supermarket plus several cafes and restaurants.

Bergerac, 12 miles away, is the nearest large town, offering comprehensive high street shopping, large supermarkets and a local market Wednesday and Saturdays. For market lovers there is a market somewhere nearby every day.

Périguex, the historic capital of The Dordogne region is an easy 30 minutes drive from La Terre des Bois.

How To Get To Grand Castang in Dordogne, South West France

The property location is about one mile from the centre of Pressignac Vicq, a village 8kms north of Lalinde. Bergerac Airport is about 25 minutes drive. Other possible airports include Bordeaux (90 minutes), Limoges (2 hours) and Toulouse (2 hours). The nearest TGV train stations are Bordeaux and Libourne, which are respectively 90 minutes and 60 minutes on the local train to Lalinde. Our property is 560 miles from Calais and it is possible to cover all but the last 25 miles from Perigueux by autoroute (motorway).
