About St Mathieu in Haute-Vienne, Limousin

La Marchaderie is in a small hamlet, 1.5 km from the charming village of St Mathieu and close to the borders of Dordogne and Charente.

As it is located on the Haute Vienne/Dordogne/Charente borders, and the famous 'Richard the Lionheart Route', this beautiful region is rich in historic sites, attractions and activities.  There are many large lakes, numerous chateaux, quaint villages and larger historical towns and cities to explore.  Throughout the year there are markets and fetes to visit - often celebrating local interests, from chestnuts or mushrooms to local cider or woodcrafts.

St Mathieu has many amenities including a supermarket, restaurants/bars, newsagent/tobacconist, two bakeries, pharmacy, post office, bank, and its own lake with a small beach, water activities and bar/restaurant.

A 15 minute drive takes you to the picturesque town of Piégut which has a market one day a week where an abundance of local produce can be found.

The city of Limoges, famous for its porcelain, is only 50 minutes drive away.

Within the Dordogne and only 45 minutes away is picturesque Brantôme, known as the Venice of the Dordogne, with the river Drone flowing through it, and a little further south is the medieval city of Perigeux.

Over the border in Charente, and just a one hour drive away, is the hilltop city of Angoulême with its narrow streets littered with cafés and restaurants.
