Self Catering Gite with Pool in Charente-Maritime

Attractive gite with large garden and fenced pool. Situated amongst vineyards and sunflower fields in a tranquil location. The nearby village of Migron with its 11th Century church, has a well stocked mini market, boulangerie and butchers. Oysters and mussels are sold in front of the mini market every Saturday morning.

The small town of Burie (10 minutes) offers a twice weekly market several shops and a Pharmacy. Larger supermarkets are available in the nearby towns.

Ground Floor

  • The lounge area includes two sofas plus a double futon (can be used as an extra bed) surrounding the Charentaise stone fireplace with wood burning stove.
  • Fully equipped kitchen with electric oven, gas hob, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine, toaster and kettle plus good quality utensils.
  • Dining area seating 6/7 with views through large French windows over garden and pool.

First Floor

  • Two bedrooms - the first is a large double bedded room with wardrobe and chest of drawers. The second bedroom has bunk beds plus another single bed plus a large shelved storage unit.
  • Bath/shower room with toilet and washbasin.

About Migron in Charente-Maritime, Poitou Charentes

Cognac (20mins) on the River Charente is the home of French Brandy. The world famous distilleries offer English speaking tours and tastings. There is a wide selection of shops and restaurants through its cobbled streets and a Jazz/Blues festival in July.

Saintes (25 mins) on the River Charente is a beautiful historic Roman town with lovely river walks. There is a Roman Amphitheater with café and adjacent parking. Much of the town is pedestrianised so you can enjoy watching the world go by from its many pavement cafes or visit the Cathedrals, museums and elegant shops.

St Jean d'Angely (20 mins) is an attractive small town with cobbled streets. Good variety of shops, restaurants and bars including a riverside restaurant and walks. There is a large leisure centre with both large and small pools plus a sauna and café. Markets on Wednesday and Saturday mornings. A nearby village is home to the regions unusual Baudet donkeys - a must to visit.

La Rochelle (60 mins) is the principal town of the area and offers something for everyone.  The old harbour boasts many pavement cafes and restaurants with views of the ancient fortifications. Boat trips are available to the beautiful islands of Ile de Re, Ile d'Oleron, Ile d'Aix , or even Fort Boyarde. There is a large aquarium, a small sandy beach or bigger beaches nearby.

Rochefort (45 mins) is a historic naval port with beautiful classical architecture of the 17th Century. The Corderie and Arsenal are open to the public and the latter includes a museum together with a full sized replica of the 18th Century frigate L'Hermione.

Royan (45 mins) is a modern lively town with many shops, an indoor market every weekday morning, marina and casino. There are wide sandy beaches backed by pine forests to the north and south of the town. La Palmyre Zoo nearby is a must for everyone.

How To Get To Migron in Charente-Maritime, South West France

By car:

From channel ports of Cherbourg, Caen, Le Havre, Dieppe, Calais, Roscoff and St Malo, eventually join the A10 motorway down to junction 34 at St Jean d’Angely and we are about twenty minutes away.

By air:

La Rochelle is the nearest airport and about one hour away.

Bordeaux and Poitiers airports each about ninety minutes away.
