Modern Home with Private Pool and Gardens, Offering Tranquility and Delightful Views

Villa Tandounet

Villa Tandounet is nestled within a quiet woodland area where there are many opportunities to observe the local wildlife, including deer and hare. The house itself is set in lush green gardens with striking views over the meadows of the picturesque bastide of Monpazier. There is plenty of space to relax and enjoy the peaceful ambiance of the neighbouring area and fields.

A modern style home that is light and airy throughout the year, Villa Tandounet has a covered terrace at the front of the house which is ideally suited to alfresco dining.  A fully equipped self catering house that can accommodate up to six people, it is an ideal country retreat suitable for both families and couples.  A log fireplace along with central heating helps keep the house warm during the winter months.

The private pool offers delightful views of the charming French countryside.  The pool terrace is illuminated and equipped with sun loungers; there is also an outdoor shower nearby and for added safety, the pool is surrounded by a fence.  Children can run around the grounds to their hearts content – the hedge surrounding the property gives not only privacy, but an enclosed area for them to play in.

A vehicle is recommended, although the nearest village of Monpazier is a pleasant walk away – either by road or through the rural paths.  The property has a garage in the basement and plenty of parking space to the rear of the house.

About Gaugeac in Dordogne, Aquitaine

The villa is in a quiet location, surrounded by fields and views of the countryside.  It is approximately 2 kilometres from the medieval bastide village of Monpazier. Located in the Purple Périgord, which is the southwestern part of the department, much of the land is included in the great wine-growing areas around Bergerac, both north and south of the River Dordogne. The prestigious list of the “Most Beautiful Villages in France” contains at least five towns within half an hour’s drive of Villa Tandounet

The area is rich in pageantry. The English ruled Aquitaine for 300 years in the Middle Ages under the Plantaganets and there are many castles, bastide towns and fortified churches for you to visit. The fine bastides and other medieval towns such as Beaumont, Eymet and Issigeac, and the châteaux at Biron, Lanquais and Monbazillac, provide great interest. The Dordogne and Vezere valleys are world famous for the art of pre-historic man at Lascaux, where you will find the caves and many other attractions, this area is known as the Birthplace of Art.

The Dordogne is one of the gastronomic centres of France, famous for its foie gras, duck, goose, truffles, walnuts and prunes. There are many restaurants in the area using traditional cooking recipes to produce very memorable meals. The surrounding area is renowned for its wines - the world famous vineyards of Medoc and St Emilion are close by and the local wines of Bergerac, Yquem, Monpazier and Cahors are also excellent.

Every July and August, head for the annual village fétes and medieval banquets held by towns in the area. You can enjoy tasting locally grown and prepared food, drinking locally produced wine and listening to local music - these generally carry on late into the night.

If the abundance of good food and wine gets too much for you - walking, cycling, golf and canoeing on the Dordogne River are probably the most popular outdoor activities in this part of France.  The ambiance and fantastic views of the surrounding area is also ideal for painters.

If you need a bout of more serious shopping during your stay, Bergerac and Villeneuve-sur-Lot are easily accessible. Bergerac has a lovely old town, and a river frontage where boat trips along the Dordogne can be taken. Remember also to stop off for a wander around Issigeac on your way to Bergerac, particularly on Sunday morning for the market.

See Local guide and map for information on nearby towns and facilities.

Guest Reviews Of Villa Tandounet

Bernard Liberman

The property is set in  very quiet and attractive countryside, conveniently situated close to Montpazier, which has good shops,  restaurants and sensible parking. It has a sizable pool and extensive lawns and a good outside patio and is well protected by mature hedges.

All appliances are provided and within reasonable distance are picturesque castles and towns and many market towns, all offering entertaining shopping and night markets. The region is well endowed with visitor attractions. Local farms also offer an abundance of fresh fruit and vegetables.

We have been twice to spend time at Villa Tandounet and have had very pleasant and memorable stays.

We stayed at Villa Tandounet in the summer of 2011. The property is fantastic! With 3 children, we appreciated that it was completely surrounded by a hedge so we did not worry about our children wandering off - it gave us peace of mind to know that they were safe. We spent many hours in the large, clean pool which has a lovely view of the surrounding countryside. The pool was very safe, with a fence and gate, so the children could not access it unless we were there. The property itself is very quiet and situated away from other houses (and the main road), so it's perfect for a relaxing vacation away from everything. When you're at the house, you are right in the middle of the French countryside, and it's a lovely feeling.

The house itself is perfect for a family or a small group. Each of the bedrooms is clean and comfortable, and the bathrooms are updated. The kitchen has newer appliances and made cooking a breeze! We ate most of our meals outside on the large front covered porch - overlooking the garden and pool, and covered so it was lovely to sit outside all day (out of the hot sun) and late into the night. In terms of location, the Villa is about 20 minutes walk from Monpazier. The main road can be a little busy, but once we discovered a lovely path through the fields all the way to Monpazier, we walked it every day! It is a 5 minute drive, if you didn't want to walk. Montpazier is a wonderful old town with a weekly market and many interesting shops and restaurants.

In the surrounding area, we found many things to do with our children and it was a truly wonderful vacation. We would love to stay at Villa Tandounet again in the future - and we're happy we discovered it!

A delightful, quiet, tranquil and very picturesque place to visit for a relaxing and unwinding holiday. The villa is clean, comfortable and well maintained, has a good sized living accommodation with all mod cons and parking space. It also has a very reasonable sized garden and pool great for the kids and family alike! The village of Monpazier only a short walk away from the villa, is a beautiful place that has plentiful shops, markets and sometimes a night market, as does the surrounding areas. The night markets are a definite must to visit to experience all kinds of French cuisine!! In summery, a family friendly, highly recommended place to stay 5 ***** !!
