Le Masbeau is a small family establishment situated in a hamlet deep in the heart of the Limousin countryside.

We can offer accommodation in our newly refurbished farmhouse with its carefully retained character.

The gite is entirely independent and the swimming pool is only shared with the owner's family composed of the parents and two children.

If your requirements are nothing more than eating good food, taking a slow saunter along the picturesque lanes or relaxing by the swimming pool, then these are at your disposal.

Accommodation detail

Le Masbeau is a newly refurbished farmhouse with its character carefully retained. The accommodation comprises of three spacious en suite bedrooms with additional games and leisure facilities, sitting room, and swimming pool. Children will be completely safe, as there is plenty of secluded private space indoors and outdoors.

Ground floor

The log fireplace, heavy oak beams and lovely stone walls are still very much in evidence.

• Kitchen / dining room - the front door leads into the dining room with large farmhouse table and chairs, dresser and wonderful fireplace with a wood-burning stove installed. The kitchen is to the rear of the dining room and is equipped with cooker, hob, fridge, microwave, toaster, washing machine and dishwasher.

First floor

• Sitting room - with French T.V. is on the first floor and all bedrooms lead off from this.
• Bedrooms 1 and 2 - have a double bed plus bunk beds with en-suite toilet, shower and wash hand basin.
• Bedroom 3 - has a double bed and with en-suite toilet, shower and wash hand basin.

One more guest can sleep in the common part on sofa beds with no extra charge, and they would have access to the en-suites without having to go through any bedroom.

Outside

The 11x6m swimming pool with its spectacular views of the Creuse countryside has a removeable low glass sliding shelter which as well as being a safety factor with regard to children, will also have a glass house effect and heat the water so that the pool can be used for swimming in months other than high and peak season.

The place is entirely independent and the swimming pool is only shared with the owner's family.

In the barn next to the farmhouse there is a large playroom which has indoor basketball, volleyball, table tennis and where other games can be played.

There is adequate parking and there wooden decking at the back.

About the location

Saint Dizier Leyrenne
The local village, has two bars/restaurants and all the amenities (pharmacy, doctor, baker, small supermarket, hair dresser...), and a ten hectares fishing lake.

Bourganeuf
A medieval town (10 kms), has more shops, a bigger supermarket, a few restaurants, a cinema. The famous "tour Zizim" (15th century), the church and all the ancient buildings make it a lovely atmospheric and historic town.

The museum charts, from 1886, the history of electrification in the region to the present day.

Giant Maze – Gueret
This huge labyrinthe covers two hectares. There are 14 questions that, if answered correctly, enable the visitor to exit the maze more easily.

Wildlife park – Les Loups de Chabrieres – Gueret
Several enclosures where a variety of wolves are bred including the white wolf.

Chateau de Boussac
An exceptional site where the fortifications have existed since Roman times.

Aubusson
Is a beautiful medieval town, steeped in history and famous for its tapestries and carpets. From the richness of the Middle Ages to the hanging tapestry created for the Olympics in 2000, the wonderful know-how of the Aubusson tapestry weavers has transcended through time since the 6th century.

Aubusson is situated along the valley of the Creuse River. The town is charming with many architectural features from the Middle Ages including strange turrets, carved windows and doorways.

The "Maison du Tapissier" (closed on a Tuesday) houses permanent and temporary exhibitions in its spacious, well-lit halls, which trace the history of tapestry. Also worth a visit are the 'Vieux Tapissier', a 15th Century house with weavers workshops and tapestry making demonstrations, the ruined fortified château, the 13th Century church of Sainte Croix, the clock tower, and the old bridge, Le Pont de la Terrade

Modern day Aubusson has restaurants, museums, theatre, sport, cinema and shops. It is also famous for the markets held every Saturday morning. Dining out is always a great pleasure and the area is justifiably renowned for its specialities of Limousin beef, Foie Gras, Chestnuts, Champignons and Clafoutis

D’Arbre en Arbre
Near to Lake Vassiviere d’Arbre en Arbre offers a number of fantastic tree top assult courses for children and adults.

Parc Bellevue
Close to limoges, Parc Bellevue is a large adventure park with water slides, go-karts and many other amusements. Absolutely ideal for young children.

Chateau de Rochechouart
15th Century chateau which also houses the departments Centre of Contemporary Art. The chateau was built on the edge of a 20km crater formed by a meteorite 160 million years ago.

The Aquarium, Limoges
Close to the Town Hall in Limoges the aquarium has 300 different species and more than 2500 fish in an area of over 1000 square metres.

Wildlife park – Parc de Reynou
A wildlife park where you can walk among the animals (not the lions). 

Gay-Lusac museum- St Leonard de Noblat
Dedicated to the life of the 19th century scientist, with photographs and a selection of laboratory equipment.

Distillery Museum – Limoges
The last, fully operating distillery in Limoges. For two centuries Limoges was an important centre for the production of local liquors from Cognac, Armagnac and Rum – The museum is well worth a visit!

Oradour sur Glane – Centre de la Memoire
A few kilometres north of Limoges is the village of Oradour sur Glane, totally destroyed by the Nazi’s in the Second World War, 642 men, woman and children massacred by a German Panzer Division. Walking around the centre is a unique and humbling experience. Everyone should visit the centre at least once during his or her lifetime!

Steam train journeys in the Limousin
A variety of routes from Limoges to Eyemoutiers and Ussel, provide great day out, back in time to the days of real steam. Travelling through the gorges of the Haute Vienne, with spectacular viaducts and breathtaking scenery – just a fantastic day out with memories that will last forever.

How to get here

The property can be accessed:

By Plane: from Liverpool, Southampton, Nottingham, Newcastle and London Stansted through low cost companies to Limoges Airport where rented cars are available (one hour drive to the gite)

By Road: from the A20 take exit E62 to Guéret/La Souterraine; follow the N145 for 18 kms then turn right to the D49 to Grand-Bourg and continue to Saint Dizier Leyrenne (D912). At Saint Dizier Leyrenne, go to the crossroads where the mairie and school are, turn left to Pontarion (a sign says "Chambres d'Hôtes"); turn left after the bridge and then left again (to "Le Masbeau"). The property is the first one on the right hand side.

By Train: the closest train stations are "La Souterraine", "Guéret", "Limoges" and "Vieilleville".
