Home description

This pretty French farmhouse, dating back to 1785, is nestled halfway up a hill from a Basque farm. It is situated within enclosed grounds of three quarters of an acre. The road terminates at the entrance to the grounds making it very private and safe for children. There are beautiful views from every aspect, rolling fields grazed by brebis sheep, woodlands inhabited by the large variety of local wildlife and views of other picturesque farms.

It has been tastefully renovated to provide comfortable accommodation and retains many original features. You can either relax in the private front garden, soak up the sun by the private pool or enjoy tranquil views from the rest of the grounds.

The Pyrenees National Park, seaside resorts of Biarritz and St. Jean de Luz and beautiful historic city of Pau are within easy reach.

This farmhouse provides a beautiful base for a range of local activities including walking, cycling, whitewater rafting, fishing, golfing, skiing (during winter months) etc. etc. Alternatively, just take it easy, enjoy the tranquil countryside and sample the vast array of wonderful restaurants located nearby.

This pretty souletine farmhouse has been recently renovated retaining many original features.

• The ground floor area is open plan offering a fully fitted and well equipped kitchen with large fridge/freezer and double oven. The dining area houses a large wooden dining table which seats 6 and the lounge area has three sofas, a large woodburning stove and TV/DVD. 
• The three bedrooms are all tastefully decorated with beautiful views.  The first floor has one double bedded room with en-suite shower room, large landing area with day-bed and a family bathroom.  The third floor houses a double bedded room and also a small twin-bedded room.   

Outside there is a pretty front garden with a plum tree for shade and various garden furniture including wooden table with seating for 6 to enjoy outside dining.

There is exclusive use of pool (6.4m x 4m) set into a slope overlooking fields and woodland. 

About the location

Situated in the beautiful countryside mid-way between the pretty villages of Barcus and Hopital St. Blaise (both about 5km equidistance).

Hopital St. Blaise is renowned for its XII century church which is on the the Chemin de St. Jacques de Compostelle pilgrimage route and has two wonderful restaurants to choose from.  

The pretty flower filled village of Barcus has a small variety of shops and three restaurants which offer cuisine to suit every taste and pocket.  

The small fortified town of Navarrenx with its large river which hosts the annual world salmon fishing championships is a short drive away.  

The larger towns of Oloron and Mauleon are also a short drive away, both of which offer a large range of shops, restaurants and social/sporting activities.

How to get here

You can fly either to Pau (about 50 minute drive away) or Biarritz (approx. 75 minute drive away) both of which are served by Ryannair from Stanstead and Bristol.

Alternatively sail across the channel and drive from Western channel ports within a day.
