Relax under the shade of our two hundred years old cedar trees or laze by the 12 x 6 metres saltwater swimming pool (only shared with the owners). After a swim, have a drink while preparing a barbecue in the pool house where you can also have lunch or taste and enjoy some good wine.

We can introduce you to friends and family producing very good wines, enabling you to share with them the vinegrowing and winemaking experience. You may taste and enjoy the wine and at harvest time (around mid October) be able to help with the grape harvest in a friendly atmosphere accompanied by a good lunch and wine.

About the location

The gite is situated in Saint Magne de Castillon, a small quiet village bordering the vineyards of Saint Emilion, the renowned and beautiful medieval village where prestigious wine producers such as Cheval Blanc or Chateau Angelus are found. Pomerol is nearby and Medoc is less than one hour away.

On the other side is the historic market town of Castillon la Bataille on the banks of the Dordogne river. The town is so called because in 1452 the English finally lost here the hundred year war. The annual re-enactment of this battle is held in July and August, and is truly spectacular.

Truly worthwhile day trips by car or using the local rail travel to Bergerac and Sarlat along the Dordogne valley or to Bordeaux are strongly recommended. The centre of Bordeaux, a beautiful city with wonderful shopping and lots of history is 45 minutes by car or about 30 minutes by train.

How to get here

It is an easy journey from the UK whether by ferry or tunnel and car, train or plane.

By ferry or tunnel:  We are approximately 350 miles from St Malo, 500 miles from Calais and Boulogne.Both are easy journeys using the excellent French motorway network.

By train: Eurostar to Paris then a TGV to Bordeaux or Libourne on the way and finally the small regional train from Bordeaux or Libourne to Castillon la Bataille on the way to Bergerac or Sarlat. Stop at Castillon la Bataille then call us or get a taxi by calling the + 33 (0)6 07 29 86 52.

By Air: Should you wish to fly and hire a car we are situated just 40 minutes from Bergerac airport and 45 minutes from Merignac (Bordeaux) airport. Ryan air and Flybe have daily flights into Bergerac and Easyjet to Merignac.
