Home description

Gites Kerdean is a 17th century farmhouse converted into 5 gites that have just been renovated. It is situated in a quiet hamlet in the heart of rural Brittany, 3 kms from the busy village of Cleguerec and 13 kms from the Napoleonic town of Pontivy. Both S and N coasts are within an hour's drive. Local features include a large forest, Brittany's largest lake and a very long canal and towpath.

All visitors to the gites will be very well looked after by experienced resident managers. Each gite has full facilities for a successful self-catering holiday, and the shared areas and shared facilities add to the experience.

The property is in 3 acres of ground including a large field - plenty of space for youngsters to let off steam. There is a pool table, table tennis table, makeshift badminton facilities and bikes to use. The garden is attractive with mature trees and a stream at the end of the field. Seating outside includes picnic tables and an area under the cover of a hangar - the roof of an old barn.

The Quenecan Forest begins 2 kms away, gateway amongst other things to a 12 kms round waymarked walk in the forest. Within the forest is the magnificent Lake Guerledan which offers swimming and water sports. Near the forest entrance is Bot-er-Mohed, an ancient dolmen; it is a large stone table where people were buried. Not much further from the gites is the Nantes-Brest canal with a towpath all the way to Pontivy and beyond.

About the location

Gites Kerdrean is in the quiet hamlet of Kerdrean, 3 kms north of the busy village of Cleguerec and 13 kms from the Napoleonic town of Pontivy. It is about equidistant between Brest to the west and Rennes to the east, or within 60 kms of both the north and south Brittany coasts.

Kerdrean is on the edge of the Quenecan Forest (around 7,400 acres) within which, from only 7kms from the gites, is Brittany's largest lake, the beautiful Lake Guerledan (covering about 1000 acres). The lake offers spectacular scenery, walks, swimming and a range of other water sports. Other places to walk include along the towpath of the Canal de Nantes a Brest. It is also a good base for fishing, in inland waters as well as off the coasts, and there is a 9-hole golf course 30 kms away and 2 18-hole courses near Lorient.

Cleguerec has a supermarket, bakeries,a butcher, a creperie, bars and restaurants, while Pontivy offers a much wider range of eating places as well as full shopping opportunities. Several notable places of architectural and historical interest are nearby, including the medieval castle at Pontivy, Bon Repos Abbey and la Forges des Salles.

How to get here

The rural location of Kerdrean means that travelling along some quiet minor roads is a necessary part a journey, part of the pleasure for many!

The ports of Roscoff, St Malo, Cherbourg and le Havre are, respectively, about 1 1/2, 1 3/4, 3 1/2 and 4 hours driving time away. The airport of Dinard is about 1 1/2 hours from Kerdrean, while Brest and Nantes are both around 2 1/2 hours away.
