Home description

This spacious house with its full south facing pool and terrace is in a perfect location to appreciate all the treasures of this part of the Lot valley. 

It is on the edge of woodland within walking distance of a village with local boulangerie and restaurants and is just on the other side of the river from the famous cliff-hanging medieval village of St Cirq Lapopie.

The house is extremely spacious with lovely high ceilings and oak beams and traditional terracotta tiled floors at ground level and oak floorboards to the upper level. All of the ground floor rooms have French doors which lead directly to the terrace around the pool.

Ground floor

The hallway which is accessed via a beautiful antique entrance door, has a cloakroom with a stone hand basin and an adjacent WC.

• Dining room - has a table and chairs to comfortably seat 8 people and is immediately adjacent to the kitchen and the covered exterior dining terrace.
• Kitchen - is spacious and fully fitted to include electric oven with gas hob, fridge/freezer, microwave and dishwasher. (There is also an independent laundry room off the kitchen).
• Living room - has comfortable sofas and easy chairs and an impressive brick-built open fire. It also has a TV/DVD/CD and an upright piano (for those who prefer the self-made entertainment of yesteryear!!).
• Master-bedroom suite - which is accessed from the living area, is a living space in itself and offers the superb combination of:
• Large bedroom with king-sized bed and a view through the French-  doors onto the pool
• Separate walk-in dressing room
• Its own kitchen with small table and chairs
• High quality bathroom with double hand-basins, a bath & separate shower & an independent WC
• “Snug” with sofa-bed to have a quiet read/snooze or sleeping space for a child/baby

First floor

• Mezzanine - this large area is accessed via a traditional rustic oak staircase; this space has a sofa-bed and easy chair – it can provide another bedroom area, play space for the children or simply another living area.  It has a lovely view over the valley from its window.
• 2 bedrooms - one with a double bed and the other with twin/double bed.
• Bathroom - with bath/shower-over and hand basin and a separate WC.

Outside

Adjacent to the kitchen is the covered dining terrace, with its ample table and chairs and barbecue to one side, it is the perfect spot to enjoy those “en-plein-air” meals with some shade next to the pool.

The 10 x 5 m pool and its surrounding terrace, being full south facing, is an absolute sun trap. For some shade, or a tranquil game of pétanque, try the front courtyard, or, for the more energetic, some table tennis in the traditionally-styled open hangar with its massive oak beams to the side of the house; the hangar also offers covered parking for 2 cars.

The house which has a gated entrance to the courtyard, is set within a ¾ acre site of a mixture of field and woodland and lies at the end of a lane leading up from the village.

About the location

Garival is situated on the edge of woodlands just outside the village of Tour de Faure which benefits from a local boulangerie for those morning croissants and 3 restaurants; there is also a small epicerie for the basic essentials.  Just across the river is the magnificent medieval village of St Cirq Lapopie where there are cafes, restaurants and tourist shops along its meandering lanes.

There are three local and lively markets at Limogne, Cajarc and St Gery, all within 20 minutes drive.

The two principal towns of the Lot region are Cahors (20 mins) and Figeac (40 mins) and just over the border in the department of the Aveyron, Villefranche-de-Rouergue (40 min).  Each with its own distinctive architectural character, offer the full complement of culture and history, markets and music festivals, riverside locations and street-side cafes.

From the west of the region, with its rolling wooded hills and small streams, to the drama of the limestone cliff lined river valleys in the east, the area offers a contrast of landscape.  There are flat-bottomed river boats that run from Bouzies through Cahors and beyond, which allow you to witness the delights of this transition at leisure.

How to get here

Garival is approximately 9/10 hours driving time from Calais, on AutoRoutes except for the last half hour.

The nearest ariports are Rodez at 1h15, Toulouse at 1h30, and Bergerac, Limoges and Carcassonne all at approximately 2h30.
