Home description

Live like a Parisian in a charming apartment in one of the most traditional and vibrant neighbourhoods of Paris!

Anyone who wants to really experience Paris will be delighted at the chance to stay in a charming apartment in Montmartre, one of Paris' most vibrant neighbourhoods. Located on a street ending with stairs leading to the Moulin de la Galette, the windmill made famous by artists from from Renoir to Toulouse-Lautrec, the apartment is just over the hill from the last remaining vineyard in Paris. The adjoining streets of Rue Lepic and Rue des Abbesses are famous for the number, quality and variety of food stalls and restuarants that line them, even including charcuteries specializing in Greek, Italian, Asian and regional French food.

Located on the top floor of a small, late 18th Century building, the apartment faces an unusually quiet street in front, and inner courtyard in back. The entire interior and exterior of the apartment building were renovated in 2007, and the apartment itself repainted in the same year. The main room is lit by three large windows, and its soaring ceiling rises above the level of its hand-hewn oak beams.

Montmartre was once a village on the outskirts of Paris, attracting the avant-garde art community by its splendid views and cheap rents.  Artists ranging from Impressionists like Renoir, Post-Impressionists like Toulouse-Lautrec and Van Gogh, and modernists like Picasso and Modigiliani all left their mark on a quartier that is still considered the center of a thriving artistic community.

Montmartre is also known by Parisians as a quartier famous for its splendid array of food and dining opportunities.  The apartment is located in the heart of dozens of small shops featuring the regional foods of France, and indeed specialities from all over the world, from Greece and Italy to Asia, Africa and Latin America.  Les Petits Mitrons, considered to be one the finest patisseries in Paris, is found among a myriad of small shops specializing in cheeses, fish, fruits and vegetables, charcuterie, French and international wines.

The area is easy to access from anywhere in Paris: the metro stops of Blanche and Abbesses are short walks from the apartment.

Accommodation detail

The apartment is located on the top floor of a small three-story building, facing the quiet street in the front and interior courtyard in back.

The furnishings are a stylish, lovely and comfortable mixture of modern and antique. The original art and prints range from sixteenth century to contemporary, fitting for an area of Paris famous for the artists who have lived and worked there.

We provide all the modern conveniences that will make your stay comfortable. For those who are inspired to cook by the wonderful local food shops, we have a full range of equipment and Limoges china in which to serve your culinary creations.

  • Entrance - small area leading to main room and bathroom with a steep staircase to mezzanine
  • Kitchen / living / dining room - the light saturated main room is outlined by its soaring ceiling and hand-hewn oak beams, and serves as both living room and kitchen/dining room. The kitchen features high quality appliances (including a convection oven), all the equipment required to prepare your own feasts, and Limoges china on which to serve it.
  • Bathroom - is modern
  • Bedroom - one of the generous-sized rooms. Located next to the bathroom, also has a large window and a mattress selected to offer both comfort and support for people with back problems.  There are book shelves and ample storage space in this room, as there is throughout the apartment.  Linen is of excellent quality, and Oriental carpets are throughout the apartment.
  • Mezzanine - large, low-ceilinged area with a study and bedroom, punctuated with three skylights with views to the rooftops of the Montmartre neighbourhood. In spite of the low ceiling, its snug and cozy environment makes it a favorite place to sleep when guests are in Paris. The eaves of the mezzanine conceal a freezer, as well as large capacity closet and storage space. The study with a desk and ADSL access overlooks the main room.

The washer/dryer, used only for this apartment, is located in a space just outside of the apartment proper.

Hardwood floors are featured throughout, except for the modern, tiled bathroom and the carpeted mezzanine

About the location

The restaurants and cafes of Montmartre offer guests the kind of quality and variety of dining experiences one always hopes to find in Paris.  We have provided guests with a guidebook to our favorites, as well as local restaurant reviews.  Of course, one of the great pleasures of being in Paris is to sip a leisurely coffee or glass of wine, and watch the always fascinating Montmartre street life unfold.

Small cabarets like the Lapin Agile, located next to the vineyard, as well as major nightclubs like the Moulin Rouge, just blocks from the apartment, attracted the cream of Paris society to Montmartre.  Today Montmartre's nightlife continues to bring a diverse array of Parisians to also enjoy its other vibrant music and dance attractions, including the famous Divan du Monde.

The Place de Tertre is the main square of the village that was once on the outskirts of a Paris that has now grown to surround it.  Just 1/4 block from the apartment is the famous Moulin de la Galette, made famous by numerous artists, and reminding all of the time when the area was dotted with fourteen windmills.  The whole  quartier retains much of the flavor of a small French town, and its inhabitants are determined to guard its unique charm from gentirification.

Montmartre is home to Sacre Coeur, a landmark visible throughout the city, and more visited than any other sight except the Eiffel Tower.  The city's fabric district, the Marche St Pierre, lies at the foot of Sacre Coeur, just a few minutes walk from the apartment.  And the area is easy to access from anywhere in Paris:  the metro stops of Blanche and Abbesses are short walks from the apartment.
