La Chapelle is an extremely picturesque cottage perched on the side of a hill at one end of the hamlet of Crestes. Candle-lit suppers on the balcony accompanied by a chorus of owls echoing around the valley - magical and unforgettable.

Here one can walk all day in every direction and possibly not see another person - quite incredible in this day and age. The hill overlooks the Lot Valley and there are paths meandering down to the riverside – for those who love a good walk.

The medieval village of Montsalvy has all the normal shopping facilities and is about 15 minutes drive away. Le Fel has two very good and interesting restaurants and tennis courts about 10 minutes drive away, or 30 minute walk through the woods.

Accommodation detail

La Chappelle is over 200 years old and has been renovated sympathetically but still retains a certain feeling of antiquity.  So very quiet and absolutely tranquil.

Ground floor

• Entrance -  from lower level with a staircase leading up to the living area
• Kitchen / dining / living room - open-plan living area with new comfortable settee and chairs, log burning stove and UK TV and DVD player, a dining table and chairs, and a fitted kitchen with fridge and cooker alongside.
• Balcony - a French window from living area leads onto the balcony with magnificent views. Table and chairs are provided on the balcony for al fresco meals under the unpolluted skies.
• Shower room - with WC and hand basin also a washing machine

First floor

• Bedroom 1 - with double bed this leads into second bedroom
• Bedroom 2 - with twin beds

Outside

The very private 8 metre by 4 metre pool has a terrace with tables and chairs and of course sun beds.  There are outstanding views from the property and parking for 2 cars.

About the location

Entraygues is in the north of the department (or county) known as Aveyron which is one of eight in the Midi-Pyrenees. It is here where the river Truyère tumbles out of the Auvergne and joins the river Lot.

Sheltered by the northern and easterly aspects of the Auvergne and Aubrac mountains, part of the Central massif, we enjoy a Mediterranean style climate with early spring, long summers, late autumns and consequently short winters. With the nearest Auto route 60 miles away and the nearest railway line 30 miles little has changed over the years and the Vallée du Lot remains a haven of peace and tranquillity.

Conques, is one of the most beautiful medieval villages in the whole of France and a stop over point for en route to Santiago de Compostella in northern Spain for over a 1000 years. The display of gold precious stones forms one of France’s most treasured collections. The many medieval villages are largely untouched by tourism each one proudly maintained in the unique style of this area with “fish scale” roof tiled hoses. Everyone is very friendly and welcoming, with tourists still looked upon as something of a novelty.

The restaurants are excellent and wonderful value. The wines of the area are very underrated and rarely sold other than locally.

Although we may be in magical “back water” here, no area could be better placed to explore many of France’s natural splendours. In the house booklet there are detailed recommended routes for you to enjoy these trips including an unforgettable scenic trip though the lunar landscape of the Auvergne through the ancient village of Salers and through the mountain pass by Puy Mary, some 6000ft high.

No one is ever quite prepared for the stunning grandeur of the 3 Tarn Gorges. Griffon vultures circling the sky somehow make it even more awesome. The Dourbie Valley is the most picturesque of the 3 gorges du Tarn There are several spectacular caves in this area – one so called Aven Arman has every shape of stalagmite and stalactite enhanced by some brilliant lighting and the Grotte de Darligan, the pink cavern, has vast chambers and a huge bell shaped structure, here too lighting works marvels.

The completion of the Millau Viaduct, part of the A75, is one of the largest works of art in the world. 2,600m long, 343 high (the highest bridge span in the world and as high as the Eiffel Tower) makes the Tarn Gorges an even more eventful trip

Here you are on the edge of one of Frances most beautiful National Parks, Parc Nationales des Cevennes, a mountainous range of scenic landscapes.

We can organise tours by English speaking guides and Aerial Viewing trips in a light aircraft to view the splendour of the valleys. Its about 40 euros for ½ hour.
