About Aubas in Dordogne, Aquitaine
The property is in Aubas, a quiet sleepy village 2km from Montignac, site of the famous prehistoric Lascaux caves. Montignac is a charming town with beautiful stone and timbered houses and lovely cafes and restaurants by the river. It has a lively market on Wednesdays.
In July Montignac hosts a colorful week long music & dance festival that culminates in a wonderful fireworks display. The area around us offers a multitude of fascinating activities and sites no more than an hour's drive: troglodyte shelters, stalactite caves, stunning gardens, fairy tale castles, fortified towns built on cliffs with magnificent views of the valley. The area is great for walking or cycling with paths properly marked for different capabilities. Bikes are available for hire from a shop just 10 minutes walk away.
There is so much to see and do suitable for adults and children of all ages: Canoeing down the Dordogne, horseriding, hot air ballooning, falconry displays, a corn maze. There is an aquarium parc just 35 minutes away, with special events like dive feeding of sturgeon and carp and a diver show. Sarlat, a medieval town is just half an hour away and has a huge Saturday market not to be missed. During the summer you will find many street performers and musicians entertaining in its square and cobbled alleys. Great atmosphere in the evenings. For wine lovers, Bergerac and Cahors are not far away (1.5 hrs) while Bordeaux, for beaches and more vineyards, is a 2 hour drive and can be done as a day trip.
For those wanting to combine golf with sightseeing and gastronomy during their holiday, there are 3 golf courses near us, one of them (18 hole) is just 40 minutes drive. We can arrange your own tee off time.
There are many interesting festivals from June - September: Hat festival, Mime festival, scarecrow festival, Jazz Festival - as well as day and night markets to sample the local delicacies, cheese and wine. You will find that the 2 weeks is simply not enough to explore and enjoy this region.

Guest Reviews Of Villa Hibiscus, 4 Bedroom Farmhouse for 8
Neill Ustick

In late August - early September, we were lucky to find a vacancy in a roomy and very well located gite on the banks of the river Vezere close to the lively town of Montignac. One of three, the comfortable two-storey gite (Villa Hibiscus) had all we needed, including good cooking facilities and wi-fi access which allowed us to maintain email contact with friends and family. Our hosts, Brenda and David, were friendly and helpful at all times, including providing travel, shopping and sightseeing tips. We were lucky to make friends with two people in the adjacent gite, something made easier by sharing the swimming pool and and having adjacent outside garden tables with umbrellas for outside relaxing and eating. David recommended a Montignac restaurant on the river for us to share a farewell dinner. As a base for exploring the many wonders, beauty and history and pre-history of the Dordogne, the gite was excellent, as we were within half an hour or so of many marvellous places such as the awesome Lascaux caves and fascinating Sarlat and Les Eyzies, as well as many fine chateaus in the region. With every day a rich one driving in the beautiful Dordogne countryside, then returning to the river-side gite, this was a very special experience in a very well equipped, spacious and friendly place. Our thanks to David and Brenda.
