Nestled in the Normandy Bocage, a short drive from the magnificent Le Mont Saint Michel, is this enchanting historic Farmhouse. Sleeping 7 plus baby, this manor farmhouse is ideal for a restful holiday, sightseeing or get away from it all break. With two acres of orchard, totally enclosed and private, the Grand Maison Fleur de Lys is perfect for a family holiday, group getaway or couples hideaway with its roaring woodburner in its majestic royalist fireplace.

Built in 1650 during the reign of Louis XIII, it was the first house to establish this petit hamlet. Its royalist associations are clearly observed from the Fleur de Lys carved in rose granite above the original door.

La Grand Maison Fleur de Lys is set in 2 acres of wooded orchard and lawned areas. There are swings for the children and a raised swimming pool in the high summer (not a permanent fixture). It is safe for all ages to explore the private land and drink in the outstanding views of the countryside on the Normandy/Brittany border.

Ground floor

• Kitchen, dining and family room - the kitchen is fully equipped with a range cooker, fridge/freezer, microwave, toaster, kettle, coffee maker, popcorn maker and washing machine. All crockery, pans and cooking utensils are included. The large traditional French table easily seats 8 and there is also a child's highchair. The main feature of this lovely room is the majestic Royalist fireplace with the traditional male and female stones. There is a wood-burning stove in the fireplace which can be lit during those cooler evenings. On the outside of the house, the Royal Fleur de Lys can be seen carved in rose granite above the kitchen window.
• Salon - the salon is divided from the main kitchen, dining and family area by the original walnut timbers. The Salon is a relaxation area, away from the main hustle and bustle of the house. There is a TV, DVD  and Video player. The library contains a wide range of Videos, DVDs and books. There is also a Playstation and games available to play, a CD/Radio stereo, board games, jigsaws and magazines.

Upstairs

Three good sized bedrooms, a family bathroom and feature landing and stairwell, including the original walnut staircase.

• Master bedroom - the large, spacious and airy master bedroom features the top of the original fireplace at that end of the house, which ran the full height of the house before its conversion. The bedroom has a large double bed under the fireplace which now acts as a half-testor. There is a wardrobe, dressing table, chest of drawers and two bedside cabinets, providing lots of storage. This spacious room can easily accommodate an extra single bed and cot. The room looks to the front of the house and over the surrounding countryside.
• Bedroom 2 (double) - bedroom is a light and airy room with a double bed and a single bed. The room has adequate storage with two bedside cabinets, wardrobe and chest of drawers. It looks out to the front of the house and the views beyond.
• Bedroom 3 (single) - bedroom 3 is a beautifully presented single bedroom, with a single bed, wardrobe and chest of drawers. As with all the rooms, it has the original beams on the ceiling and the window opens to reveal beautiful views over the surrounding countryside.
• Bathroom - the spacious family bathroom has a bath, shower, sink and toilet. There is also a cupboard and cabinet for storage. The views over of the orchard and surrounding countryside are outstanding.

Outside:

The rural location is blissfully peaceful and private, making the farmhouse an ideal retreat for families and couples. There is parking to the front and side of the property and a patio area to the rear, with a table and 6 chairs. One can lose oneself in the two acres of wooded orchard; stroll amongst the apple blossom and find the primroses hidden in the undergrowth in spring; wander through the lush trees to escape the heat of the day in summer; and in the autumn, pick natures' fruits and nuts from the abundant crop, returning to the farmhouse's roaring fire to warm yourself and cook your fruits. About the location

La Grand Maison Fleur de Lys is a beautifully converted rustic farmhouse in a hamlet in the beautiful lower Normandy region of Northern France about 20 km from the world famous Mont St. Michel. The nearest town is St James, about 3.5km away. This charming little town, founded by William the Conqueror in the 11th Century, features several good restaurants as well as a good range of shops and bars including the famous St James Tricolors boutique. There are also two good supermarkets.

Just outside the town is the large Brittany Second World War American Cemetery of soldiers killed in action during the Normandy Landings.

Saint James is on the Saint-Jacques de Compostella pilgrimage route with pilgrims passing through from the internationally known World Heritage site of Le Mont St. Michel, just 20 minutes away.

Le Mont St Michel is an 8th Century Abbey built on a rock island around a kilometre off the coast connected by a causeway. Le Mont is the second most popular tourist attraction in France: a visit is a "Must Do".

For the children, there are plenty of attractions:

A trip to the Zoo at Champreus (don't miss the Lemur Reserve where the lemurs mingle freely with the visitors!), the Water and Theme Park Ange Michel (20 minutes away), the Aquarium in St Malo or the Alligator Bay Reptillarium near Le Mont St Michel.

How to get here

The hamlet is a short distance (5 minutes drive) from the main A84 autoroute running from Caen in the North past Rennes in the South. It is no more than one hours drive from the St Malo ferry and a comfortable 6 hours drive from Eurotunnel.
