A classic French Chateau from 1878 situated within walled, very private parkland offers bed and breakfast in a unique location. 

Accessible from airports (Bordeaux 30 min, Bergerac, Angoulême, La Rochelle 1 hour) and the A10 motorway Junction 38).

Breakfast at the Chateau and table d'hôtes (diner) is carefully prepared to suit all tastes.  English, French and German languages are all spoken fluently and cheerfully.

The climate is warm in winter and cool and airy in summer.

Accommodation detail

The chateau was built in the neo-gothic style with architecture from the school of the renowned French master builder "Violet le Duc".

It was sympathetically restored with modern additional features including elegant bathrooms and under-floor heating. The interior is decorated with modern paintings by the owner.

Outside

All the rooms have wonderful views over vineyards and the Gironde river. Together with the views from the terraces and gardens, a visit to the chateau will leave a truly memorable impression.

A completely separate art workshop/studio (atelier for painting) is also available for courses within the grounds.

About the location

Chateau Bellevue is within walking distance ofs the historic riverside village of Plassac with its Roman remains, and nearby there are Prehistoric paintings and further evidence of the areas fascinating Gallo-Roman history. Following the legend, France's very first vineyard emerged here, where the Romans started growing vine on the hill of Bellevue around 200BC and where today in a small quantity the exclusive "Château Bellevue" vine is privately produced.

The chateau looks towards the region of the Medoc which is accessible by nearby regular ferry services from the delightful small town of Blaye (with its famous Citadel and markets to enjoy). Once across the river all the classic chateaux of the Medoc (Margeaux, Palmer and Lafite-Rothschild etc) are within easy reach and a further pleasant short drive reveals miles of sandy beaches on the Atlantic coast.
