Any Season Retreat - Tranquil Private French Estate with Pool

Tranquil estate on 20 acres of private land. La Baysse is the last house of only three down a private road. The 200 year old French barn house has been fully restored and renovated, for a little history at your back door step... at the rear of the main house still stands the original workers barn - in almost original condition, with original wine  vatts... now just a peice of our own history in the back yard.

Enjoy the all day sun, beautiful views and barbecues on sunset summer evenings. Perhaps relax around the pool, in one of the hammock's, enjoy a glass of wine or a cocktail or two, a book or maybe a few games of table tennis, soccer, a walk or ride around the local roads which are very quiet.

There are a number of very good walks around the area, so it is ideal for rambling or a proper walking holiday, a number of the  very good wine routes to enjoy. Some significant history is around the house, the village of Puiguieim ( 2 klms away ) is reputed to be where the 100 Years War started, though it is very peaceful now.

Alternatively, with full central heating La Baysse is perfect for a winter getaway and we have a wood burning stove to keep you cosy in the evenings.

Holiday Accommodation at La Baysse

La Baysse, a 200 year old barn set in 20 acres of private land comprises:

• Kitchen - well equipped including bread maker, mixers, large selection of baking dishes
• Media room / lounge -  standard 42 " TV and DVD system run via projector  for films and large theatre screen. Good  selection of DVD's
• Further lounge - for reading or a with a second 42 " screen and dvd player to enjoy if the media room is full !
• Two day livings areas - one ideal for kids
• Four double bedrooms - two with private living areas
• Twin bedroom
• Four bathrooms - with WC's

Two extra single beds can be placed in rooms of your choice, we also have further beds available for larger parties and there is a cot for your little people.

Separate Apartment Possible

One double bedroom + ensuite can be turned into an apartment with it's own external access or kept as part of the main house with internal access - must use cooking facilities in the main house.

About Thenac in Dordogne, Aquitaine

Baysse is situated in the Dordogne Region, the South West of France. One hour east of Bordeaux. 20 minutes from Bergerac Airport and only five minutes from Chateau des Vigiers, one of the best golf resorts in France.

The nearest large town is Bergerac, twenty minutes north east of the property. We are 2 miles from the bastide village of Puyguilhem which is reputed to be the place where the first canon shot was fired in the 100 Years War. Five minutes walk from world renowned monastery of Buddhist peace leader "Tich Nhat Hann", five minute drive from Christian monastery.

La Baysse provides a perfect location for a peaceful and picturesque holiday amongst the vines. However, the amenities and attractions of the beautiful Dordogne Valley and the vineyards of St Emilion and Bordeaux are within easy reach. The pre-historic caves at Les Eyzies and Lascaux are interesting, whilst the ancient towns of Sarlat and Bordeaux are well worth a visit. The local railway line runs from Bordeaux through St Emilion, Ste Foy la Grande and Bergerac to Sarlat.

The summer season in the Dordogne offers a huge number of events and Bergerac hosts many ranging from a four day open air festival culminating in a magnificent firework display on 14th July to regular markets in Eymet, Bergerac, Ste Foy La Grande. Concerts, jazz and art exhibitions. Many of the smaller towns, such as Eymet have a weekly evening market also where it is possible to wander around, choose supper from one of the stalls, wine from another, find a table, sit down and enjoy the street entertainment.

How To Get To Thenac in Dordogne, South West France

By Air
Fly from Stansted, Southampton, Edinburgh, Bristol, Belfast, Manchester, Exeter, Birmingham and Liverpool to Bergerac Airport which is only 20 minutes from the property, or into Bordeaux or Toulouse Airports from any of the UK's larger airports; A rental car (airport pickup) is recommended and great deals are done through most of the budget air lines.

By Car and Ferry
Ferry from any of the channel ports (using St Malo the property can be reached in under six hours driving time).

By Rail
The local railway line runs from Bordeaux through St Emilion, Ste Foy la Grande and Bergerac.
