New owners have recently refurbished this property. Situated in a tranquil hamlet, amongst the sunflower fields and vineyards of the sunny Charente, are our three traditional self contained gites. Whether you are house hunting in this increasingly popular area, searching for a relaxing break or a fun filled family holiday with plenty to keep the children entertained, then Le Petit Husson has much to offer you. We have heating in all properties and therefore have availability all year round.

The area is ideal for walking, horse-riding, water sports, fishing, bird watching, painting and cycling - for the whole family and is perfect for exploring the beautiful Charente region.

The three gites form part of a former 17th century Charentaise farm, and have been recently renovated and tastefully restored to provide a relaxing and comfortable holiday. They are approached through a beautiful courtyard, shaded by a large Lime tree, and each gite benefits from its own private rear garden which has a gate for added security and peace of mind. The gardens are equipt with patio furniture and barbecue. Each of the private gardens have both sunny and shady areas.

Le Petit Husson is set in an acre of walled garden with the obligatory walnut and fruit trees – and provides an excellent backdrop to the large solar heated, fenced pool, which also has plenty of inflatables and water toys for the children. We have several sun loungers, tables and umbrellas provided for your comfort, and we also have a food menu and ice-creams available on the poolside, so you can simply relax and enjoy the sunshine.

We have a large fenced off playarea in the main garden with a shady sandpit, climbing frame, swings, slides and plenty of toys to keep the little ones occupied, with smaller play equipment especially for the really little ones.

You will find plenty of places around the main garden area to sit and relax with a good book or a glass of wine, whether you are looking for sunshine or shade, peace or play,  your options are endless.

'New for 2011' we have also put in this year a couple of picnic benches just outside the playarea, so you dont have to tempt the little ones to far for lunch.

'NEW for 2010'

We now can provide a homecooked meal service at a price of 20€ per person for a 3 course meal, a menu can be sent to you on request. Many people have made use of this service on the first night that they arrive but it is available throughout your stay with us. We can provide childrens portions at a reduced price or a childrens menu, Menu example;

• Garlic mushrooms served on french toast                
• Pesto and mozzerella stuffed chichen served with frites and homegrown french beans   
• Warm pear and almond tart served with creme anglais
  (this is an example menu and choices may vary)

Accommodation detail

Le Nid du Hibou is a one bedroom gite and comprises:

Ground Floor

• Kitchen /dining area - fully equipped for two persons including a cooker, fridge and microwave, also a dinning table and chairs. 
• Lounge - large open plan area with DVD player plus a large selection of DVDs available, large comfy sofa, coffee table, books and the usual comforts.

Mezzanine

• Double bed area - large, with a 4 poster bed, velux window and exposed beams, plenty of space for a cot, junior bed or spare bed if required.
• Bathroom - with original cast iron bath, sink and separate toilet. Tastefully decorated in the Art Deco style.
• Both floors are extremely spacious for a one bedroom gite, light and airy with room to feel at home.

Outside

Direct access to own private garden area, overlooking the pool, orchard and open countryside. Also use of the acre of open garden, which is home to nesting owls, kestrels and hoopoes as well as the usual garden birds. We were pleased to see Red Kites close by.

You also have use of a large laundry room with no extra charge.

Ample parking is available within the courtyard. Well behaved pets are welcome by prior arrangement.

About the location

The nearest boulangerie and PO are in Charme (1km), and the market town of Ruffec (12km) has 2 large supermarkets, hairdressers, newsagents, estate agents, a recently opened English shop and a lively weekly market  where you can buy local produce.

Further Afield

Poitou-Charentes is home to many historic towns locked away in its countryside, each with its own personal attractions. More or less each is located within a short drive from Le Petit Husson. The Charente is also known for its reputation of having one of the best climates in France.

• Poitiers (1 hour) - Futuroscope theme park, beautiful cathedral and a shopper’s paradise.
• Angouleme (45mins) - the capital of the region. For shopping there is a variety of quaint shops as well as the large hypermarkets. For sightseeing, there are river cruises, historical buildings, world famous comic-strip museum, paper museum, art galleries and exhibitions.
• Cognac (45mins) - Need we say more ?? Distilleries, street side cafes and beautiful riverside walks.
• La Rochelle (1½ hrs) - famous port and seaside resort, including museums aquarium and stunning beaches.
• Royan (1½ hrs) - Seaside town full of history and markets favoured by the French. A 30min boat crossing takes you to the Medoc area, full of vineyards, chateaux and pine forests.

Other	We have a qualified nurse on site. We also have pet sitting and childminding services available on request. We have sports or craft activities available for children for 15€ per child per session (session lasts 2 hours) and a bbq night with treasure hunt (and bonfire in the winter months) for 15€ for adults, 10€ teens and 5€ for children, these have proved very popular. Babysitting is available in the evenings for 10€ per hour (however many children you have). 'NEW for 2009' fully fenced, childrens outdoor play area with sandpit and climbing frames, also plenty of  toys and games to keep children occupied. Each gite has a set of boules and croquet for you to try your hand at. Also badminton sets are available and swing ball, with plenty of space for a game or two.  Our pool is heated by solar power so even in the early season it is a comfortable temperature. It is ideal for children or a great place to relax around right into the evening with its solar lights creating a relaxing atmosphere. It is also equipped with plenty of pool toys to keep the children entertained. We also have a large selection of over 200 dvds so you will be sure to find something to your taste. We have lots of board games and books that you can borrow, we  also have a playstation that you can use.

Additional price information

• Flexable changover days available due to ferry/flight prices being cheaper midweek, please ask if required.
• B & B available charged per night.
• Lettings per week, but shorter breaks or long winter lets are considered.
• Flexible arrival considered.
• Arrivals after 2pm - Departures by 11am.
• A damage deposit of £100 is required is required, and would be returned upon departure, subject to the house being left in a satisfactory condition.
• Price includes electricity, gas, water, bed linen and towels.
• Logs can be purchased if required.
• A complimentary welcome basket of food is provided. 
• Payment can be made by cheque or direct bank transfer.
