Home description

Spring comes early to Normandy and the countryside is at it's prettiest.  La Foucaudiere is  the perfect spot for an Easter Break; the banks along the lane are studded with violets, primroses and wild orchids and the beech trees are bursting into leaf.  Come and relax in our pleasant gardens, enjoy a good book and a glass of wine and leave the worries of the world behind you.  

We offer great value B&B as well as self catering accommodation which is suitable for couples,  single guests and of course families.  Whether you are looking for a one night stop-over, a short break  or a longer stay we are happy to help you plan a visit that suits your needs.  With the owner on site there is always someone available who can help you make the most of your time whilst you are here.

If you enjoy  walking or cycling Orchard Gites make a perfect base from which to explore the beautiful countryside.   Why not come and learn new, creative skills at one one of our Art Workshops.  We offer tuition for individuals or small groups in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere so why not get in touch to find out more.   If you love golf, the 18 hole course near Vire is highly recommended.  Put your skills yo the test on this delightful, recently extended course whilst admiring the view across the Lac du Dathee

La Foucaudiere is an oasis of calm but is located within easy reach of a wide variety of leisure activities and tourist destinations.  Nestling in the delightful bocage countryside, we are within easy reach of  the unspoilt coast of North West France and the popular destinations of  Mont St Michel,  the D-Day Beaches and  Bayeux.

All three gites are available for long term lets at reasonable rates from October until the end of March for anyone wishing to spend more time in the area.  Please contact the owner for further details.

• Charming mezzanine bedroom with ensuite shower and toilet is accessed via a wooden staircase.

Outside there is a South facing patio area leading to the lawn and garden .

About the location

Situated on the border of Calvados and Orne, this restored longere farmhouse provides you with the perfect opportunity to escape from the pressures of everyday life.  We are located between Vire and Flers in the heart of the 'bocage', surrounded by the leafy hedgerows so typical of the area.

The pretty village of St Quentin les Chardonnets is 1km from here and the small, medieval town of Tinchebray with shops, bars and banks is only 4km away. The nearby towns hold regular, bustling markets, where you can sample the specialities of the region and buy an abundance of local produce.

La Foucauderie is the perfect base from which to explore the Cotentin peninsula. Destinations of interest include the D-Day beaches, Bayeux, the seaside towns of Granville, Barneville-Carteret and the world heritage site of Mont St Michel.

Alternatively, visit the the scenic area of Swiss Normandy in the valley of the Orne to the East of La Foucaudiere. Here the gorges and cliffs provide opportunities for canoeing, rockclimbing and walking.

How to get here

Regular flights between the UK and Dinard mean that you can be with us here in Normandy within a matter of hours.  Car hire is available at the airport and the drive to La Foucauderie is a pleasant one and a half hours.

Travel by ferry is equally straightforward. The travel times from the nearby ferry ports is as follows:

• Ouistreham:   one hour
• St Malo:           one and a half hours
• Cherbourg:     one hour and forty-five minutes
• Le Havre:         two hours
• Dieppe:            two hours and fory-five minutes
• Calais              four hours

The train journey from Paris to Vire is two and a half hours.

The straightforward journey from Vire to La Foucaudiere is approximately 15 minutes.
