Do you feel like getting away from it all?  Then La Foucaudiere is the place to stay!  Forming part of a restored 300 year old farmhouse, our gites provide a tranquil retreat in the heart of the Normandy countryside.  Simply enjoy sitting in our pleasant gardens or wander along the lane and admire the beautiful views.  

La Foucaudiere is an oasis of calm but is situated within easy reach of a wide variety of leisure activities and tourist destinations.  We are ideally situated, nestling in the delightful countryside between Calvados and Orne and an easy drive to the unspoilt coast of North West France .  Each gite enjoys a private aspect over gardens and orchards and with the owner on site there is always someone available who can help you make the most of your time ihere in Normandy. 

All three gites are available for long term lets at reasonable rates from October until the end of March providing an ideal base for anyone wishing to spend more time in the area.  Please contact the owner for further details.

• Beamed kitchen/lounge in La Cideraie is light and pleasant with French windows looking out onto a spacious lawned area planted with a variety of fruit trees.
• Charming mezzanine bedroom with ensuite shower and toilet is accessed via a wooden staircase.

Outside there is a South facing patio area leading to the lawn and garden .

About the location

Situated on the border of Calvados and Orne, this restored longere farmhouse provides you with the perfect opportunity to escape from the pressures of everyday life.  We are located between Vire and Flers in the heart of the 'bocage', surrounded by the leafy hedgerows so typical of the area.

The pretty village of St Quentin les Chardonnets is 1km from here and the small, medieval town of Tinchebray with shops, bars and banks is only 4km away. The nearby towns hold regular, bustling markets, where you can sample the specialities of the region and buy an abundance of local produce.

La Foucauderie is the perfect base from which to explore the Cotentin peninsula. Destinations of interest include the D-Day beaches, Bayeux, the seaside towns of Granville, Barneville-Carteret and the world heritage site of Mont St Michel.

Alternatively, visit the the scenic area of Swiss Normandy in the valley of the Orne to the East of La Foucaudiere. Here the gorges and cliffs provide opportunities for canoeing, rockclimbing and walking.

How to get here

Regular flights between the UK and Dinard mean that you can be with us here in Normandy within a matter of hours.  Car hire is available at the airport and the drive to La Foucauderie is a pleasant one and a half hours.

Travel by ferry is equally straightforward. The travel times from the nearby ferry ports is as follows:

• Ouistreham:   one hour
• St Malo:           one and a half hours
• Cherbourg:     one hour and forty-five minutes
• Le Havre:         two hours
• Dieppe:            two hours and fory-five minutes
• Calais              four hours

The train journey from Paris to Vire is two and a half hours.

The straightforward journey from Vire to La Foucaudiere is approximately 15 minutes.
