Home description

According to past guests none of my efforts to describe the property does it full justice. Is it a chateau, a manor, a hotel particulier, a large villa? You decide.

The property offers modern comfort in a Belle Epoque atmosphere. You may enjoy candlelit dinners either in the conventional dining room, in the more rustic downstair live-in kitchen or "sotto le stelle" under a cloudless sky before taking a midnight dip in the heated pool. It is yours to decide whether you put the highlight of your too short a stay (2 weeks recommended based on comments of past guests) on sightseeing, wine tasting, physical activities, fancy eating or just lazying by the pool. The property set up is most convenient also for families with children of all ages.  

Maison Noble dite Dayraut is on the out skirts of the quiet little town of Lavardac (2500 inhabitants) with no industry but all the necessary conveniences (banks, post office, newspapers, bakeries, butcher shops, super market, doctor, pharmacies, restaurants within walking distance. The area has been compared to Tuscany: rolling hills, lazy rivers, farmland and vineyards, with small tracks for hiking or biking. Ideal for romantic events, meetings of friends and/or family gatherings.

Maison Noble dite Dayraut is a 19th century stone structure with three floors and a basement.

Basement

• Summer kitchen - large area with professional gas stove and a large dining table, with exposed stone work and wooden beams opening up on the gardens

Outside

The house (220 sqm per floor) is in the middle of a 8000 sqm park with centenary trees, a large barn with a table tennis equipment and a solar heated pool of 13 x 6 m.

The property is secluded behind a 8 foot hedge of cypress or laurel bushes. The owners live in a cottage at one end of the property. 

About the location

The property is located on the outskirts of the small town of Lavardac near Nerac, with all conveniences necessary within walking distance. The region offers rolling hills covered by fields of sunflowers in season or vineyards and is crisscrossed by three rivers and a canal.

We are in a rural area producing a number of wines (Buzet, Brulhois, Marmande, Gascogne) in addition to Armagnac, Floc, goose liver, duck confit and all fruits and vegetables growing in these parts. You may buy these products at bustling farmer's markets or directly from the farm or enjoy them in restaurants, 3 within walking distance, many more within a 30 minutes car ride. The region boasts three 1 star and 1 three star (Michelin) restaurants.

Most villages go back to the XII-XIII century so there are churches, bridges, castles galore to visit. Two hours car ride to the ocean and the attractions of Mimizan, Biarritz, Biscarosse and Arcachon.

How to get here

By car: from Bordeaux or Toulouse (International airports) approximately 70 minutes by motorway A62. From Bordeaux: exit 6, follow Nerac through Buzet, Vianne allow 15 minutes. From Toulouse: exit 7, follow Nerac again, enter Nerac then Lavardac.

By train: TGV from Paris 4 hours (get off in Agen), rent car and see above or take taxi: approximately 80 euros.
