Charming little chateau with pool (solar heated, Roman style steps and fully fenced), situated near the island of Oleron. It caters for 12 people with a supplement of £75 pp pw for an extra 2 people by prior arrangement only. The property stands on about one hectare of walled grounds and is ideal for friends or family in a group. The historic property is fully modernised while retaining the original features. It has a 10m x 6m decked and fenced pool, which is solar heated, barbecue facilities and play area, swings etc. Situated about five miles from several beaches;  there is a full range of water sports and it is the perfect holiday venue. Linen can be hired from the caretakers (I have to book it so let me know in good time please), also cot, high chair etc.  Utilities payable out of peak season. The local village has a small supermarket and boulangerie; nearby are a chemist, butcher, hair dresser and wine and beer specialist. In the nearby town of Marennes there are all shops and banks as well as markets three times a week. There is loads to see in the surrounding area including Roman and Napoleonic towns, a fortified village as well as the islands of Re, Oleron and Aix. There are boat trips to Fort Boyard and cycle tracks along the coast and around most of the islands. Pets sometimes accepted by prior arrangement only and only on low season : supplement £75 pw + extra £75 damages deposit. Short breaks available Sept - May @ £650 for 4 people for 3 nights all inclusive. Gift vouchers available for the ideal birthday, anniversary, Valentine or celebration gift, prices start @ £650.

About the location

One of France's best-kept secrets is the wonderful spring and autumn climate in this area. The Chateau  is situated about five miles from the bridge to the Ile d Oleron on the south west coast of France. The local village St. Just is a ten minute walk away along our own leafy lane to the village road.

In the village is quite a good restaurant, a small supermarket, a tabac and a baker. A little further away is a butcher, a wine and beer specialist, a chemist, a doctor and a hair dresser.

Marennes is our nearest town about four miles away which has two big supermarkets, open makets (night time Fridays in season) banks etc there are many places to eat especially seafood on the local ports.

There is a good range of beaches from the giant man made sea lagoon at Marennes ideal for the littlies to the renowned surfing beaches of the cote sauvage and Oleron plus the miles of sandy beaches in almost every direction.

Of interest in the area are Saintes a Roman town on the river Charente, Brouage, a fortified village five miles from here, La Rochelle the famouse port and Royan the classic tourist town. Along the coast there are loads of places to walk and ride (bikes for hire in the area)

The Island of Oleron is just over the big bridge and is a fascinating place in itself especially for water sports, beaches and just general chilling out!

How to get here

There are cheap flights (sometimes stunningly cheap) to the local airport at La Rochelle. In the winter months flights can be as little as £1 !! With the bright sunny (but sometimes cold) winter weather we get here, this makes a perfect winter escape, and a more-than-perfect one for the spring and autumn. FlyBe and Ryan Air do most of the flights to La Rochelle. St Malo is the nearest port - about 5 hours by car.

Other	The grounds are totally walled-in, so kiddy-proof providing you have shut the gate! For big events we are usually asked to erect a marquee in the grounds. The pool is solar heated, so plenty warm enough during the spring and autumn.
