Peaceful Holiday Accommodation with a Pool in the Rural Vendée
Our three connected properties were once a farmhouse and two barns, which have been carefully adapted to be the comfortable and spacious holiday accommodation available to you now. We added a nine metre curved pool and pool terrace and landscaped the gardens taking care to blend both the buildings and gardens in with the surrounding properties of this tiny, quiet hamlet to protect both their and your privacy.
The nearest boulangerie and bar with restaurant are just 2.5 miles away and the nearest supermarkets are a little further.
This is a superb location to just laze around the pool, stroll in the gardens, explore the surrounding countryside and its sleepy towns or visit the coast.
Holiday Accommodation at La Maison
Entering the Maison from its own private carpark through a vestibule, you are immediately in a large open lounge, kitchen and dining area, the whole of which has a beamed ceiling and attractively tiled floors.
- The lounge is comfortably furnished with three settees, an upholstered stool and a coffee table. There is a television, DVD, video (UK format) and CD player. There is also a further seating in the dining area with another settee which converts to a double bed if necessary.
- The dining area has a large pine farmhouse table and chairs and a dresser containing crockery, glassware and cutlery.
- The kitchen is well equipped with a dishwasher, automatic washing machine, microwave, cooker, fridge-freezer, kettle, toaster and coffee machine.
The upstairs extends into the roof space exposing the heavy roof beams.
- There are four bedrooms - two doubles, one triple and a family room. One of the doubles also has a single foldaway bed. The family room has a double bed and two single foldaway beds. All of the bedrooms have ample storage/ wardrobe space.
- There is a bathroom with bath (shower over), washbasin and toilet.
- A large shower room with shower, toilet and vanity unit with two washbasins.
Outside
You can step out of the lounge or dining onto a large covered veranda at the back of the house overlooking the rolling countryside – it is an ideal place for barbecuing and eating outdoors, catching the sun from late morning until sunset. Garden furniture and a barbecue are provided. The veranda steps lead down into the gardens and access to the pool.
About Cheffois in Vendée, Pays de La Loire
The area around our property is aptly described as rural as it is in the heart of the farmlands but in our nearest village, Cheffois (2.5 miles), there is an excellent bar/restaurant, a boulangerie and part-time post office. The closest town is La Châtaigneraie (4.5 miles) where there are several boulangeries, three supermarkets and a range of other shops including clothes, shoes, pharmacy and newsagents as well as the post office, garages and church. Hypermarkets can be found in the bigger towns of Fontenay-le-Comte and Chantonnay.
You will find cafés de sport, restaurants or crêperies in most towns and large villages in the area. In La Châtaigneraie, there are several restaurants including Hotel de la Poste opposite the post office, Le Relais Delice opposite the central square, Le Stelvio on the road to Fontenay-le- Comte and Dolce Vita tucked away in La Tardière.
There are markets in most towns and special occasion markets in some more rural settings. Only in the bigger towns are markets held every week – for example, every Saturday in Fontenay-le-Comte - and it is best to arrive early as they often close at lunch-time.
The nearest coast is only about 60 km away and once there you can head north-west to Les Sable d’Olonne and the start of the Vendée Globe, the round-the-world single-handed yacht race, further north-west to island of Noirmoutier or south-east to the beautiful walled port of La Rochelle with long sandy beaches a significant feature in both directions.

How To Get To Cheffois in Vendée, North West France
Driving from the UK
The cross channel ferries from Portsmouth and Poole to St Malo, Caen and Cherbourg in Northern Brittany give you the least driving time in France (2½ - 5 hours). While the Dover-Calais routes give the shortest crossing time, travelling time in France increases to around 7 hours.
From Caen, drive generally south on the free autoroutes A84 and N137 to Nantes and then join the A83 south towards Bordeaux but leave it at junction 5 or 6 for Chantonnay. From Chantonnay, follow the D949b towards La Châtaigneraie and you will pass through Cheffois, our nearest large village.
From the Calais area, follow autoroutes to Rouen, Le Mans, Angers and Cholet. Leave the A87 at junction 28 and head south-east past the Grand Parc du Puy du Fou to Pouzauges and then south to Réaumur which is about 4 miles from your final destination.
By plane from the UK and Ireland
It is now possible to get cheap flights from many of the regional airports in England, Scotland and Ireland to La Rochelle, Poitiers and Nantes. These airports are all approximately 1¼h drive from our properties.
By Rail
It is possible to travel by rail to Gare de Pouzauges but there is nothing in the way of car hire or buses there and little in the way of taxis from there to cover the last 8 miles.

The swimming pool is open from 19th May until 21st September 2012.
A 25% deposit is required to confirm a booking along with a completed booking form. The balance and a returnable security/breakage deposit are due 8 weeks before the beginning of the rental period
