Stone Farm Cottage with Plunge Pool in Provence Lavender Fields

Le Champ de l'Amant is a garden of Eden cradled in a valley in the heart of lavender country, far from the crowds yet easily accessible to all the sights, sounds and tastes of authentic Provence.

Fully restored with great attention to detail in 2008, L'Ourdissoir, a stone farm building with a private plunge pool lined in native stone, combines the best of both worlds, old and new and it is an ideal, private spot for honeymooners, a flexible house for a family or a convenient gîte for two couples.

It is a haven of peace for those who want to stay on the property and savor the quality of life, a paradise for those who enjoy outdoor activities and an excellent starting point for those curious to discover many of the most beautiful perched villages of Provence.

At L'Ourdissoir opportunities for outdoor living abound and your home has three points of access to the exterior.

Just steps from your cottage door you will enjoy own private plunge pool set in local stone for your exclusive use.

The one-hectare (2.5 acres) park-like setting includes a variety of spaces to enjoy sun or shade provided by the many species of mature trees, seclusion or open views during all seasons and a variety of garden furniture to enhance your comfort and enjoyment (benches, three table/chair sets, hammocks, sun loungers).

It is an ideal place for reading, writing, painting, al fresco dining, yoga, relaxing, bird watching, strolling, picnicking.

Cradled in a peaceful valley, the property is surrounded by cultivated lavender fields and a hillside covered with native vegetation (wild lavender, thyme and savory) and crisscrossed by dry stonewalls. We enjoy views of the Montagne de Lure to the east, and the village of L'Hospitalet to the south.

About L Hospitalet in Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, Provence - Cote d'Azur

Here at Le Champ de l’Amant, the sun shines over 300 days of the year, providing dazzling blue skies and stunning starry nights. Our valley is a paradise for a wide variety of outdoor activities. There are facilities for horseback riding, hot air ballooning and paragliding in the immediate area and we have direct (no driving) access to many riding, cycling and hiking trails (such as the Tour de la Montagne de Lure GR).

Nestled in the heart of lavender country, the property is within easy walking distance to the twin villages of Saumane-L’Hospitalet (1 and 2 km, respectively). Saumane boasts a restaurant as well as a café-bistrot and there are numerous excellent "bistrots de pays" and restaurants featuring terroir cuisine in the surrounding villages and towns.

We are only 7 minutes from Banon, famous for its chèvre cheese bundled in chestnut leaves and home to one of France’s greatest bookshops, Le Bleuet. Banon is a vibrant hub town, which offers galleries, cafés, restaurants, a teashop, a day spa, a framing and bookbinding studio, numerous concerts, a cheese festival and hosts a lively farmers' market on Tuesday mornings.

Just beyond Banon, you can explore the cobbled streets leading to the XIIth chateau-rotunda, home to a baroque music festival, which crowns the fortified medieval village of Simiane-la-Rotonde, or admire the stunning views into the gorges from the perched village of Oppedette.

The bustling towns of Forcalquier, Apt and Manosque are all nearby. In Manosque, you can visit the pedestrian streets of the ancient, walled town center, take a French language immersion class, or visit the Occitane skin care products factory.

The farmers’ markets at Forcalquier and Apt are among the very best in Provence. Next to Forcalquier, you can treat yourself to a day of pampering at the world-class L’Occitane spa in the Couvent des Minimes in Mane or attend a summer music festival at the Prieuré de Salagon.

Fifteen minutes beyond Apt, you can explore the beautiful perched villages of the Luberon (Roussillon, Bonnieux, Ménerbes, Gordes, Oppède) or go antiquing at Isle-sur-la-Sorgue.

The vibrant provençal cities of Aix-en-Provence, Avignon, Nîmes and Marseille, as well coastal towns such as Cassis with its calanques and points of interest such as St. Rémy, Moustiers, Le Pont du Gard, the Gorges du Verdon or narrow-gauge railway beween Digne-les-Bains and Nice all make wonderful day trips.

See Local guide and map for information on nearby towns and facilities.
