Pretty Cottage with Stunning Views, Situated in Woodland

Le Pepie is set in an acre of mature woodland. This recently renovated 2 double bedroom cottage enjoys privacy (with a large private garden), stunning views of the surrounding countryside (with views of the Pyrenees a short walk away), a superb high-specification wet-room, fruit trees, and birdsong.  Little else but mod-cons, habitat furniture and an absence of phone, TV and the internet.  Lose yourself in the tranquility of it all.

Holiday Accommodation at Le Pepie

Le Pepie - birdsong - is a charming stone cottage set within an acre of mature trees. The property was fully renovated during 2008 so electrics, plumbing, roof and all decor and fittings are in good condition.  It shares the acre of woodland with a larger farmhouse, inhabited by a friendly British family.  Karl is a professional chef and will happily cook for guests should you wishy.  Visitors will also receive a very ward welcome from Emma (and perhaps a chicken or two!) and can expect to find basic provisions for their arrival - thus eliminating any urgent need to supermarket shop after a lengthy drive.

Enjoying a large private garden and splendid views over the rolling countryside, it comprises:

• Kitchen / lounge / dining room - the relatively new, open-plan room is resolutely modern but contrasts sympathetically with the internal and external brickwork of the cottage.  The ceiling is high and darkly beamed and the space is generous with good light and a cosy wood-burning fire.
• 2 double bedrooms - downstairs and upstairs.  The upstairs bedroom is in the eaves of the cottage, is accessed via stairs and therefore not fully enclosed.  It would not be suitable for very tall guests.  
• Bathroom - is a high specification wet room fitted with double sinks, soapstine tiles and a slate floor.

Outside

Your private, mature garden is peppered with damson and plum trees, together with seasonal flowers and its own enclosed well, meaning that it is ideal for young children and dog-owners.

About Lapenne in Ariège, Midi Pyrenees

Le Pepie is rural.  If you are searching for a property that has quick access to a city, a large town or even a village with supermarket, this property is probably not for you. Le Pepie is a venue for those who wants to escape it all, who want to immerse themselves deep in the French countryside, want not to be bothered by phones, televisions and the internet. Visitors should expect birdsong, the summer sun of Southwest France and bright stars at night in a pitch-black sky.

The nearest village with supermarket provisions is a 15 minute drive to the west, Belpech, a picturesque and typically sleepy market town of south-west France.  20 minutes east of Le Pepie is the celebrated bastide town of Mirepoix.  Mirepoix is a picture postcard town with a host of high quality restaurants, a magnificent ancient cathedral and a highly regarded, exciting market every Monday.

Further afield, Carcassonne is a World Heritage site and the most famous walled city in France.  It is an absolute must for visitors and is just under an hour's drive from Le Pepie.  A futher half hour east and visitors reach the Mediterranean seaside resort of Narbonne, meaning a day's swimming and sunbathing is less than and hour and a half away.  Directly north from Le Pepie, France 4th largest city of Toulouse lies waiting to be discovered.  Toulouse is an an archtiectural and cultural gem and, like any major regional city, it has everything a visitor could possibly want for.  

Lesser known but no less interesting is Foix, an ancient departmental capital of the Ariege and major Cathar settlement.  A dramatic 50 minute drive south towards Spain, Foix is a very pretty town in which to while away the day, sampling the local bustling market with its basque influences and scaling the castle, perched high on a hill overlooking the town.  Finally, Andorra and the Pyrenees are also easily accessible from Le Pepie and therefore skiing, for example at Ax-les-Thermes, is perfectly easily reached in under a hour and a half.

How To Get To Lapenne in Ariège, South West France

Le Pepié is situated an hours’ drive south-east of Toulouse.

For UK visitors, Toulouse [Blagnac] International Airport is served by easyjet (from Gatwick and Bristol), Jet2 (from Belfast and Leeds/Bradford), AerLingus (from Dublin), Flybe (from Birmingham), British Airways (from Gatwick).

In terms of non UK cities, Toulouse receives flights from Amsterdam (KLM), Madrid (Iberia and easyjet), Munich and Frankfurt (Lufthansa), Lisbon (TAP) and Brussels (Brussels Airlines). All major and several regional French cities have direct flights to Toulouse, operated by Air France.

Toulouse is also part of the French TGV network. Those wishing to travel by rail should estimate a journey time to Toulouse from Paris [Gare d’Austerlitz] of about 6 hours. A wide selection of well-known car hire companies operate from both Toulouse Airport and Toulouse-Matabiau Railway Station.

Le Pepié is also situated a 50 minute drive west of Carcassonne. For UK visitors, Carcassonne Airport is served only by Ryanair. Scheduled flights arrive from London Stanstead, Liverpool, Nottingham, Cork, Shannon and Dublin. Like Toulouse, a wide selection of well-known car hire companies operate from Carcassonne [Salvaza] airport.
