Stone Farmhouse with Swimming Pool

Our farmhouse is in Perron which is 3kms from the market town of Aurignac, in the departement of Haute-Garonne. The local area is known as Le Comminges which lies between the broad and hilly land of Gascony and the striking mountains of the Pyrenees.

The farmhouse was built in 1880 of solid stone in a traditional style, and boasts 2 large stone barns, one open sided for car parking and with its annexe for barbecues and shaded sitting. The other barn is used for storage. There are 10.5 acres of fields and woods located both to the north and south of the house. Across our largest field to the south is a small river (Louge) in which there are small fish. A private 8 x 4 metre swimming pool is installed in front of the house, surrounded by a grass lawn, but overlooking fields. On a clear day the Pyrenees can be seen from the pool area.

We have appointed a local British agent who lives nearby to look after the garden and swimming pool (supported by a local contractor), and other maintenance, and does the cleaning between lets.  Note that all cleaning during the let is your responsibility (and at your expense).  The gardienne d'immeible (concierge) lives opposite and looks after the key.

The swimming pool will not normally be open in the low season.

Holiday Accommodation at Ferme Langlois

Ferme Langlois will always be in good habitable condition throughout the year despite the fact that it is not a modern purpose built luxury home.

On the ground floor of the farmhouse there is a fully fitted modern kitchen (hob and overn, freezer, fridge, washing machine, dish washer), dining room with open fireplace, sitting room with efficient wood burning stove and T.V, small bedroom (bunk beds) and toilet.

On the first floor there are 4 bedrooms - the main bedroom with a double bed, another large bedroom with two French ¾ beds pushed together as a double bed, and the third bedroom with two single beds. There is also a child's cot. On this floor is a large bathroom incorporating bath, basin, and toilet. There is also a separate shower room.

There are 8 pillows in total together with pillowcases. The double beds have blankets and the single beds have duvets, with sheets or duvet covers provided as appropriate. There is a small extra charge for bed linen outside the high season. Towels are not provided, but we can arrange for them to be hired locally, given notice.

A telephone is installed at the farmhouse for all incoming calls.

For use on those rare rainy days there is the colour TV  which also has a Satellite receiver. It is Sky friendly.

About Aurignac in Haute-Garonne, Midi Pyrenees

Within approximately an hour's drive of Aurignac are Toulouse, Auch, Lourdes, Luchon (base for skiing), Foix and Montsegur. Andorra is a two hour trip, and one would allow 3 hours to reach either the Atlantic or Mediterranean coasts (about 200 kms).

The climate is good - being close to the Spanish border the summers are truly hot. Yet there are occasional rainstorms which keep the landscape green.

Perron and Aurignac

Perron is a quiet hamlet in a rural farming area. It is served by a mobile grocer, baker and butcher. Most other daily requirements are available at two small supermarkets and the Tuesday market in Aurignac. Aurignac (pop.1200) has two restaurants, two lively bars, cinema, and a number of other shops, including one selling vin du pays. There are now two larger supermarkets at Martres-Tolosanne (12kms).  More sophisticated shopping, restaurants (serving the food of Gascony in the main) and night clubs are to be found in St. Gaudens (22kms).

Before departure holiday makers will be sent Directions to Ferme Langlois, names and telephone numbers of those who look after the house locally and a list of good restaurants in the area.

Tourist brochures are at the house, up to date information can be obtained from the Syndicat d'Initiative office in Aurignac.

How To Get To Aurignac in Haute-Garonne, South West France

The region is very accessible by air, rail and road. The property itself is midway between Toulouse and Tarbes airports which are served by direct flights from UK as well as by TGV high speed services including Auto Train and Motorail facilities (to summer 2010). From Toulouse there is a slower rail service which stops at Boussens which is about 15 kms from the house. By road, driving time is 12 to 13 hours from Calais. We travel by ferry from Portsmouth to Caen or St. Malo and complete the very pleasant journey in one go taking 10 hours using major roads and motorways. For an overnight stop we used to recommend somewhere near Cognac, but now there is plenty of choice on the internet.

Guest Reviews Of Ferme Langlois

An immaculate, well equipped, clean and lovely house in a very scenic and interesting region. Plenty of places to visit when feeling energetic and very relaxing just lying by the pool in the sun. Locals in Perron very helpful and friendly. In short a well organised, stress free holiday which we would happily recommend to friends and family.
Thanks again to Martin & Penny.

August 2008.  A great place to stay!  Beautifully quiet and rural, without being isolated.  Clean and well maintained.  Easy access to the Pyrénées, Toulouse and Spain, but lots to do locally too.  Would definitely recommend.  Thanks for a lovely holiday.

Additional price information

Christmas and Easter prices are by negotiation

The rental prices are expressed per week irrespective of the number of people occupying the property up to a maximum of 8 plus a baby in low and high season. However, in mid season, discounts of up to 50% are available for 2 persons and 25% for 4 persons are available. All gas and electricity used for domestic consumption (excluding heating) and water are included in such prices. Heating, whether firewood, electric (measured by meter readings) or gas, and extra cleaning, are not included in our prices. Bedlinen is included in the high season only.  Towels are not provided, but it may be possible to rent them locally on request.

Our experience over the last 20 years means that we need to have some "house conditions" such as arrival and departure times (Saturday changeover), standards of cleaning, use of pool by young children (i.e. supervision by adults), rubbish collections, reporting of complaints and use of septic tank. Such conditions are sent with our property details and before departure.

As will be seen from the picture, the swimming pool is in an open area without railings, fences or other barriers around it to stop people falling in. It is however clearly visible from the house. France has regulations about the security of swimming pools principally concerning children under 6 years old, which has meant we have installed an alarm. It is loud enough to be heard from some distance from the pool, as far as the house. We have always maintained that it is the parent's responsibility to supervise their children, and observance of this principle is a vital condition of booking Ferme Langlois. It is not possible to assess each and every risk, but we do not accept any liability for parents being out of earshot of the alarm or tampering with it. In this connection a Pool Safety Manual will be sent to you before departure.

You are strongly recommended to take out holiday insurance (including cancellation and curtailment cover).
