French American Home in the Entre Deux Mers Vineyards

Family home and cottage available exceptionally for one month mid July to mid August in 2011. Our B&B "de charme" and it's cottage are for you to enjoy. Refined but homey, La Forge, will give you a taste of life in France surrounded by family antiques, contemporary art...and soft antique bed linens. Garden and field flowers are yours to pick and enjoy and perhaps there'll even be some tomatoes and beans ready for you in July in the tiny courtyard garden.

The 2 acres are entirely fenced in and children can run free to the swings and play hide and seek along the mowed garden paths. Comfortable lawn chairs will let you read a book in the shade of the trees and then enjoy the setting sun across the fields and vineyards.

You have use of our private family swimming pool which is located beside the stream at the annex , an old water mill "Moulin de Pey Froment" 1km down the road from the main house.

About St Quentin De Baron in Gironde, Aquitaine

La Forge is on the edge of a small village, St Quentin de Baron pop: 1500, in Entre Deux Mers. The village grocery store is open 7 days a week as well as the bakery. You can shop at an open markets every day within a circle of a half hour's drive. The closest is in Créon every Wednesday only 8km from the house. The 85km of bike path through woods, vineyards and fields is only 10 minutes away. You can take it both into Bordeaux or further out into the countryside. As La Forge is near one of the paths to St Jaques de Compostel as well as near Castillon la Bataille the place of the final battle of the hundred years war there are many marked walking paths lead to fortified castles, churches and bastides. A "son et lumiere" of the Bataille de Castillon is a great family outing at the end of july and begining of august...be sure to reserve ahead !

Our annex, just down the road (1km) in a 12 century water mill of Pey Froment has streams to fish in and woods to hike. You don't have to keep a constant eye on your little children while you're at La Forge but you can use our family pool in the field beside a stream at the annex. There are also sheep, ducks and chickens...you can have fresh eggs every day.

There are enough good restaurants (I'll leave you the list) to go out for dinner every night for several weeks.

If you're interested in gardening the vegetable museum "Oh Legumes Oubliées" as well as several private gardens are open to visitors.

There are several small fresh water lakes as well as the Dordogne river where you can rent kayaks. The Atlantic ocean with the famous Dune de Pyla...the highest in Europe, is an hour away.

Nearby Bordeaux (35min) and St Emilion (15min) are both classed as UNESCO's World Heritage Sites and merit taking time to enjoy them both. Summer evenings are often musical in both city's. Libourne,(15min) has it's world renown street festival Fest'Arts the first weekend of August.

How To Get To St Quentin De Baron in Gironde, South West France

• By air: The Bordeaux airport is 45min from St Quentin de Baron and the Bergerac airport is an hour away.
• By train: If you come by train Libourne is the closest station (15min) but there is a bigger choice of time at the Gare St Jean in Bordeaux (35min).
• By road: The D936 brings you to St Quentin de Baron.
