Renovated Rural Villa with Stunning Views and Swimming Pool

Les Aigles is a beautiful, newly renovated villa in the heart of rural Languedoc-Roussillon in the foothills of the Pyrenees. It is located one hour west of Perpignan and the Mediterranean coast, and 45 minutes south of the medieval city of Carcassonne.

The villa is set in a two acre garden with stunning views of the mountains to all sides, and a short walk to the hamlet of Laval. Although incredibly peaceful and tranquil, the convenience of a supermarket and the traditional old town of Quillan are a 5 minute drive through the countryside. The house is named after the birds of prey (eagles and buzzards), which can be frequently spotted above the house and the surrounding area.

Summer life at Les Aigles is centred around the outdoor space to the rear of the property. A new 10m x 5m pool with incredible views towards forests and mountains, plus a large terraced area including a shaded dining terrace create a tranquil environment where it is impossible not to relax.

As well as relaxing there’s plenty of scope for fun and frivolity around the pool ....
The pool is heated, with roman steps leading into the shallow end (1.1m deep). The deep end goes to 1.6m, but there is a 1.1m ‘shelf’ all around the pool. For safety, the pool has a security cover with a ‘Rolltrot’ opener (electric tool to unwind cover).

Holiday Accommodation at Les Aigles

Les Aigles is ideal for 1 or 2 families and offers extremely comfortable living facilities with a fabulous heated swimming pool in a beautiful environment.

The main living area of the house is open plan:

The kitchen has been recently renovated and updated, and should contain everything you need for an effortless holiday (fridge, freezer, dishwasher, microwave, 4-ring hob, oven, kettle, toaster, and all new matching crockery & cutlery etc).

There is a door leading directly onto the outside dining terrace.

The large salon has comfy sofas and for colder days a large log burning stove. The dining table seats 8 as standard, but can be extended to 12 people. 

There is a phone with free (landline only) calls across France, to the UK and the US, plus broadband internet connection – just bring your laptop and plug in the yellow cable!

Within the salon are a selection of books relevant to the region (guide books, bird books, cookery books, dictionary etc.), board games, badminton and petanque sets. There is also an iPod docking station and speakers.

From the salon, there are double doors leading to the outside dining terrace, and double doors leading to the main terrace and pool.

Bedrooms:

The house accommodates 8 people within the 4 bedrooms, but can be extended up to 10, plus babies/cots.

The east side of the house contains double and twin bedrooms plus a bathroom and a separate WC. The north side of the house contains double and twin bedrooms, plus a bathroom, and a mezzanine, which can either be used as an extension to the 4th bedroom or as a play area.

Both double bedrooms have extra large king size 4 poster beds with superior mattresses, and doors leading to the outside. All bedrooms have good quality feather duvets and pillows (allergy-free bedding is available if required), plus plenty of wardrobe space.

Bathrooms:

The two luxury bathrooms are newly fitted, each with bath, separate shower, sink and WC. Towels are provided both for the bathrooms and the pool.

Within the utility room are full washing, drying and ironing facilities.

About Quillan in Aude, Languedoc Roussillon

Les Aigles is located in Laval, a hamlet in the heart of rural Languedoc-Roussillon in the foothills of the Pyrenees. It is a 5 minute drive from the town of Quillan - a traditional old market town, 1 hour west of Perpignan and the Mediterranean coast, and 45 minutes south of the medieval city of Carcassonne.

Laval has a population of about 180. A path from the back of the garden leads to ‘the village’ which comprises traditional stone houses, a church, a (small) river and many beautiful walks. There are usually children playing in the village square. The bread van visits the village each morning.
 
Laval is situated in the heart of Cathare country, and there is a fantastic selection of ancient castles with stunning views, all within 45 minutes drive from the house. The world heritage site of the Carcassonne Cite is 50 minutes away, and must not be missed.
 
The Pyrenees are equally beautiful in both winter and summer, and there are some stunning gorges within an easy drive from the house.
If you want to dip your toes in the Mediterranean, the nearest beaches are just over 1 hour’s drive away.
As well as the inexhaustible options for walking, there are numerous organised adventure excursions available, including white water rafting, canoeing and canyoning. There is also an excellent dinosaur museum 15 minutes away.
 
Finally, there is a huge variety of local wines, including the Cremants and Blanquettes de Limoux, which are the excellent local sparkling wines.

How To Get To Quillan in Aude, South of France and the Riviera

Nearest airports are Carcassonne (45 minutes), Perpignan (1 hour), Toulouse (1.5 hours) and Gerona (2 hours). You will need a hire car. Drive time from St Malo is 7.5 hours and from Calais is 9.5 hours, plus stops.
