Beautiful 18thC Dordogne Farmhouse and Gite with Pool & Hot Tub

Gageolle is a beautiful restored 18thC farmhouse and gite in 40 acres set in peaceful open countryside 20 minutes south of Bergerac. It is just 5 minutes drive to the picturesque medieval village of Issigeac, which boasts shops, restaurants and a bank as well as a famous Sunday market and plays host to numerous festivals and events throughout the summer months. The main Farmhouse and the Gite are available all year and provide well appointed quality self contained accommodation for a maximum of 6 adults with swimming pool and hot tub spa. Both the Farmhouse and the Gite have been recently restored and maintain a wealth of original features including tiled and wooden floors, beams, impressive fireplaces and exposed stone walls. Both accommodations are very private with private terrace and garden areas and plenty of glorious undisturbed walks around the house and beyond. The swimming pool is for the use of guests only and is private but with magnificent views over countryside. For a luxury holiday experience and to ensure your total privacy you might like to consider renting the entire property. 

Holiday Accommodation at Gageolle Farmhouse

The Farmhouse accommodates 2 to 4 in:

• 2 upstairs double bedrooms. Both bedrooms have:
• Ensuite shower/toilet/sink etc.

From the main entrance there is:

• A hallway with doors to front and back gardens
• A sitting area and an impressive oak staircase with:
• Mezzanine landing

Off the entrance hall to the left is:

• A large fully fitted kitchen dominated by an inglenook fireplace with wood burning stove. There is a dining table and chairs. Door to outside private terraces and garden areas.

Off the hall to the right is:

• A large comfortable sitting room with sofas and easy chairs. Again the room is dominated by a large stone fireplace.

The Farmhouse is ideal for couples/singles who are looking for something more than just a gite. This accommodation is full of character and is rather more grand than a typical farmhouse.

About Issigeac in Dordogne, Aquitaine

In the southern Dordogne the medieval village of Issigeac is only 5 minutes drive away and is very popular with visitors with its winding streets with overhanging half timbered buildings. The village is uniquely arranged on a spiral pattern, the shops and houses encircling the central church and chateau. There are fascinating examples of medieval architecture and sculpture at every turn. Although a small village, Issigeac is at the centre of a large rural community and so you need not travel beyond the village for all your holiday needs. There are 2 small supermarkets, 2 pharmacies, 3 boulangeries, 2 butchers, a tabac, 3 fine restaurants, a pizza restaurant, 3 bars, health centre, a garage and a bank with cashpoint. The community is especially diverse and cosmopolitan - newspapers and magazines are available in the village in French, English, Dutch and German. The village is quiet and undisturbed except for Sunday mornings when it comes alive with one of the best street markets in the Dordogne. Issigeac plays host to many special events and festivals throughout the year.

Within a half hour drive of Gageolle are some of the most beautiful unspoilt sites and villages in France. With a history closely linked to that of England the Bastide towns of Monpazier, Beaumont, Eymet and Villereal give a unique insight into a time when, for 300 years, parts of France and England came under the same rule. The chateaux of Monbazillac, Lanquais and Biron, Abbeys of St. Avit Senieur and Cadouin and of course the ancient town of Bergerac itself are all wonderful places to visit.

How To Get To Issigeac in Dordogne, South West France

By air: The best way to reach us is by air into Bergerac Airport, this is a very easy 20 minute drive away and is well served with regular flights from the UK, Holland and Belgium. For UK flights Ryanair fly from from Stanstead and East Midlands, and Flybe from Exeter, Southampton, Leeds Bradford and Manchester. The airports at Bordeaux-Merignac (2 hours) and Toulouse (3 hours) also serve the region. Car hire is best arranged when booking the flights.

By Car: We are about 6 or 7 hours drive from the nearest Channel ports, St Malo and Caen to Portsmouth being the most convenient. An interesting option is Portsmouth to Bilbao (Spain) and drive up to the Dordogne (about 4/5 hours).

By Rail: High speed train (TGV) Paris to Bordeaux, the nearest station to us being Libourne with regular links to Bergerac.
