Spacious Gite within Former Watermill in Idyllic Setting with Pool

A lovely former watermill located in a gorgeous rural setting, surrounded by sunflower fields in the summer, with views of the Pyrenees in the winter.

Le Moulin is 300 years old and has been refurbished to provide comfortable accommodation with modern facilities whilst retaining the character of its former life. You can laze by the pool, go on country walks, participate in the multitude of locally available activities or visit the many sites of interest in the area. It's your holiday and your choice.

Holiday Accommodation at Le Moulin

Le Moulin is a large former water mill that has been refurbished to a high standard whilst keeping its rustic feel and charm. The property has been split to provide a spacious apartment all on one level for visitors plus private quarters for the owners; each having its own separate entrance and gardens.

Set in around an acre, the gardens host a large swimming pool close to the entrance of the gite with trees for dappled shade and a private side garden off the patio. The patio is equipped with a large table for alfresco eating, a coal fired barbecue and additional areas where you can just sit and relax taking in the country views.

Bedrooms and Bathrooms

There are four bedrooms in total, which can be arranged as double or twin and the 9th person would need to use a sofa bed in the sitting room.

The two main bedrooms have ensuite shower rooms and the remaining two bedrooms are serviced by a large family bathroom with a shower over the bath and a separate bidet.

Living Areas

The kitchen is fully equipped and includes a large table that can seat up to 9 people.

There is a travel cot and high chairs available on request.

The property is all on one level with single steps up into the bathroom and kitchen so may be suitable for persons with reduced mobility or possibly who use a wheelchair. Please get in touch if you wish to discuss this in further detail.

About Issel in Aude, Languedoc Roussillon

The Languedoc Roussillon region just south of Toulouse in Southern France, is an area of outstanding beauty and interest with a wealth of places to visit and enjoy including Carcassonne, Perpignan, Bezier and Montpellier the capital. Ideal for a holiday in the South of France.

Le Moulin sits just outside the little village of Issel, which is about halfway between Castelnaudary and Revel. It has easy access to the Mediterranean coast and the Pyrenees mountain range. Revel and Castelnaudary are about 15 minutes and 10 minutes’ drive away respectively and provide access to local amenities including restaurants, bars, shops and banks.

The region is famous for “les Chateaux du pays Cathar” with local castles, towns and villages dating back over 800 years. Historic towns such as Revel, Mirepoix, Foix, Fanjeaux, Limoux and Castres can all be reached within 30-60 minutes as can the three noted wine regions of the area - Fitou, Corbieres and Minervois. The nearest market town of Castelnaudary is famous for its cassoulet, which is served in almost every restaurant in town and the magnificent city of Carcassonne with its famous walled city is only 35 minutes away.

How To Get To Issel in Aude, South of France and the Riviera

By air

The nearest airport to Le Moulin is at Carcassonne, about 35 minutes by car. Toulouse is the next best option being around 55 minutes by car. There are many other airports that serve the area, most of which are less than 2 hours away.

By rail

The SNCF mainline from Paris passes through Castelnaudary on its way to Narbonne for those that prefer rail travel.

By road

Le Moulin is situated conveniently about 10 minutes from the main A61 autoroute that runs between Toulouse and Carcassonne. The easiest way to find us is to take the exit for Castelnaudary, head for Castre and when you reach Peyrens turn right for Issel. We are just outside the village on the Route de Labecede.
