A comfortable Villa style property offering spacious accommodation and private walled gardens, located in a very calm residential area between the village of Le Bois Plage and the Beach.

Holiday Accommodation at Villa "Les Bernaches"

The property comprises:

  • Three bedrooms: 2 double bedrooms and 1 twin bedroom, all with external windows to gardens.
  • One main bathroom
  • One shower room
  • Two toilets
  • There is a large new fully fitted and equipped kitchen with adjoining eating area having double doors out onto to a large raised decked terrace (60 m sq.), which overlooks the rear garden.
  • There is a large salon, with fireplace and "Polyflam" wood burning stove. From this salon a pair of double doors leads out directly to the south west facing front garden.
  • The spacious study is complete with desk, swivel office chair, table files and has free Wi-Fi access to internet. It also has glazed double doors that lead out onto the raised decked terrace overlooking the rear garden. 

Outside

The house and surrounding gardens provide a calm, spacious private environment for the perfect holiday.

The rear walled garden is private, features many mature trees Almond, Apricot, Pine along with various shrubs and plants. It has an additional hard surfaced area dedicated to BBQ eating

About Le Bois-Plage-en-Re in Charente-Maritime, Poitou Charentes

The Villa "Les Bernaches"  is located in a charming small village on the Ile de Ré, an island west of La Rochelle in the Charente Maritime. The island is accessible from the mainland near La Rochelle via a 3km bridge. The property is located in the village of  "Le Bois Plage", which is located centrally on the southern part of the Island. This affords easy cycle access to all parts of the Island.

From the property it is only a short walk to the sandy southern beaches of the Island, and an equally short walk to the centre of the village of Bois Plage. In the village you will find a thriving food market with fresh sea-food, meats, fruits, vegetables, cheeses, breads, wine etc all in abundance. The village also has its own church, post office, bank, doctors clinic, library, tourist office, newsagent, boulangerie's, supermarket, hotel, cycle rental depots, shops, cafes and restaurants.

How To Get To Le Bois-Plage-en-Re in Charente-Maritime, South West France

The property is located on the SE edge of the village of Bois Plage. It is close to the beach and to the village centre.

Trains: The closest Train Station is at La Rochelle. This station is served by regular direct  train services (TGV & Local) from Nantes (1 hr), Bordeaux (1hr) and Paris (3 hr). There is also a regular Bus service from the train station that serves the village of Bois Plage. Taxi service is also available.

Airport: The Airport at La Rochelle is close to the Ile de Ré, and only a 15 min car ride from the village of Bois Plage. There is also a regular Bus service from the airport to the train station at La Rochelle, where a further service can be found to the island. Regular direct flights are available from London (Stansted) and Dublin with Ryanair, and from Lyon with Air France. Additionally Bordeaux and Nantes Airports are less than a 2 hr drive away.

We had an absolutely  wonderful 2 weeks in the villa. The location is absolutely perfect with great beaches on the doorstep. It was great to have a beach we could walk to but the village is a perfect base for biking round the island too. The house is a great size, very clean, well equipped and has a lovely big garden. It was great to be able to eat outside with a great barbecue although the biggest bonus was the outdoor shower which meant we didn't spend all holiday sweeping up sand! We will definitely be coming here again next time we visit Ile de Re.

Very well appointed and equipped house; large and interesting garden which is secure (walled, with high gates to street) for small children to roam and play. Hot/cold outside shower particularly helpful for after the beach.

Decent broadband (wired, or wireless) connection.

The beach at the end of the road (c. 800m; 10 mins stroll, or a few moments by bike) is endless with a large tidal range with rock pools at lowest tide. There are a range of access points through the dunes.

The village centre, with bike hire shops, daily market, cash point and small Carrefour, is also a 10 min stroll away. The wine growers' co-op is also within 1km.

St Martin and La Courade 15 mins by bike, 20 mins to La Flotte, overwhelmingly on dedicated bike-only tarmac away from roads.

Countryside and salt pans/marshes were very peaceful with many beautiful birds (stilts, egrets, herons, kites, harriers, shelducks, etc)

We visited in early-mid June; typically 21-24 degrees by day and mostly sunny. The market and village were busy on weekend mornings, but the beach was far too spacious to be crowded even if busy.

We have just returned from a great week on the Ile de Re and just wanted to drop you a line to say how much we enjoyed our stay at Les Bernaches.The house was in good order and very well equipped but our real love was the absolutely charming garden. We really appreciated the work that has gone into the garden and it gave us much pleasure- providing some pleasantly cool space during an otherwise very hot week!  Best Wishes, Di Craven

This is a lovely house with great outdoor spaces in an excellent location.

It is close to the beach and the town of le bois plage is a short stroll away. We would highly recommend it.

The cost of Gas, Electricity, Water and Internet Wi-Fi access is included in the "summer" rental cost. In the "heating" season electricity for heating is charged at cost, and a "starter pack" of seasoned firewood is provided free of charge.

Visitors are required to take out appropriate Public Liability, Health, Accident & Travel Insurance as the owner cannot be held responsible or liable for any accident, injury or damage, from whatever cause, which may occur while clients are staying at the property.
