Home description

The Villa at Domaine Daramousque is set in 9 hectares of garden and fields and is close to the departmental border with the Tarn, half way between Montauban and Gaillac and just a 10 minute walk from the village of Monclar de Quercy. 

• The Villa is so private, you feel as though it is your own place.
• The saltwater pool sparkles - it is so clean and meticulously taken care of by the owners.
• The kitchen is a chef’s dream, well stocked and easy to use.  I brought my own oyster knife but no, you had one !
• The spacious living area and bedrooms, together with the lovely terrace, pool and grounds were ideal for a family holiday with three generations - both my parents and our two little girls enjoyed it immensely.
• The landscape is very picturesque and much less frequented by tourists than other parts of the south-west. There are numerous medieval villages and towns to be discovered.

Ground Floor

The front door leads into a vaulted hallway with access to:

Courtyard bedroom (20 sq.m) - large bedroom with French windows and electric shutters running the length of the room. The bedroom is furnished with two single beds, bedside cabinets and lighting above, a good-sized wardrobe (plenty of hanging space, shelves and drawers), a chair, an oval table and large mirror on nearby wall.

Garden bedroom (20 sq.m) - large bedroom with French windows and electric shutters leading into the garden, with view of the old stone Pigeonnier. The room is furnished with a large double-sized sleigh bed (made up with two single mattresses), bedside cabinets and lighting above, large built-in wardrobe with hanging space and shelving. Rectangular table with large mirror and chair.

Bathroom: Walk-in shower, bath, twin basins, bidet and WC.

Separate cloakroom with WC and basin.

Living & Dining Room (60 sq.m) - open plan, spacious and airy room with high vaulted ceiling and beams. There is a dining table with seating for six and the living room is comfortably furnished with 2 large sofas and two armchairs. There is an enormous stone fireplace as the focal point. TV, DVD, CD/Cassette music system. Also provided is small library of paperback books and tourist guides, a selection of board games, and a Local Information Folder.

Kitchen (20 sq.m) - comprehensively equipped with a SMEG 5 ring gas burner hob and electric oven, microwave, fridge-freezer, washing machine, dishwasher and two types of coffee-makers, excellent selection of cookware, utensils, china, glassware and cutlery. Double butler’s sink and granite worktops.

First Floor

Massive studio bedroom (60 sq.m) with timber flooring and exposed beams, large double-sized ‘sleigh’ bed (made up with two single mattresses), two bedside tables, suspended lights either side of bed, open hanging rack and small wardrobe, a sofa, two arm chairs and table. An additional single bed is also available at far end of room. There are shuttered French windows (with safety barrier) for good ventilation, with views across the fields.

Outside

There is a huge covered terrace (70 sq.m) which extends the full length of the Villa and has three French windows leading onto it from the house. On the terrace, close to the kitchen, is the large oak table and chairs for outdoor dining and at the far end a 3-seater rattan sofa and two armchairs providing additional sitting areas, all of which looks directly out over the pool and gardens. The stone barbecue is close to the covered terrace.

The large salt-water swimming pool is a few metres from the Villa terrace, across a grassed area. It measures 14x7m with Roman steps at the shallow end. The pool is maintained on a daily basis by the owners. In accordance with French law the pool is fitted with an approved alarm and is also fenced for your security. Sun-loungers are provided with mattresses and separate towelling covers, also parasols and other poolside furniture.  

The Villa has a large garden area within the extensive grounds of Daramousque. There are lawns, plum trees, old walnut trees and a number of acacias and a vast lime tree to find shade under. Also flowering shrubs and many lavender bushes, which attract butterflies, fields to play ball games and to walk in and woodland with wonderful views over rolling farmland looking towards the Pyrennees. The children’s play area of two swings and a slide is close to the pool. An old stone Pigeonnier is a delightful feature of the gardens. 

About the location

The Villa at Domaine Daramousque is only a few minutes drive (10 mins. walk) from the village of Monclar de Quercy, where you will find all the practical things of life, including an excellent small supermarket, a pharmacy, bank etc.  

Monclar de Quercy also has three large leisure lakes, one for swimming, one for boating and the other for fishing. For those who enjoy walking and picnicking there is the Grésigne Forest - the oldest and largest (3,600 hectares) oak forest in Europe, and the Sivens Forrest, 600 hectares of conifer forest.  Both are a 15 minute drive from Monclar.

The countryside around Daramousque, with Montauban to the west and Gaillac to the east, is known for its beautiful hilltop villages and fortified towns.  Within a 30 minute drive from Daramousque are three of the ‘Beaux Villages of France’ - these are the ‘Bastide’ villages of Puycelsi, Bruniquel and Castelnau de Montmiral and a further 15 mins from there is the spectacular hilltop village of Cordes sur Ciel. 

• Montauban is our nearest large town, the town centre and the Place Nationale are very impressive and there are many fashion boutiques, a covered market, chocolatiers, cafes and restaurants.  To the north and south of Montauban are a vast choice of supermarkets.

• Gaillac our second nearest town is famous for the vineyards in the area, Gaillac wine being internationally held in very high regard.  There are plenty of cafes and restaurants and also a large supermarket on the outskirts of town.

• Albi is famous for it’s Gothic fortress-style cathedral, connections to the artist Toulouse-Lautrec and exclusive shops and quality restaurants.
• St Antonin Noble Val is a fascinating medieval town located in the spectacular scenery of the Aveyron Gorge.
• Toulouse is France’s 4th largest city.  There are many historically important buildings, art galleries, a cathedral, monastery and cloisters and a fine arts museum, designer fashion shops and numerous cafes and restaurants.  Cite de l`Espace is the Space museum which has 2 Planetariums and over 250 exhibits, including a 53-metre high Ariane 5 rocket.  Visits to Airbus Industries can be made.

The owners will send all travel information when your final payment is confirmed. Closest airport is Toulouse Blagnac (45 mins), Carcassone (90 mins). All the major car hire companies operate from Toulouse airport.
