Majestic 19th C. Mansion with Private Pool, Overlooking the Garonne River

The house at Cordes is a majestic, 19th-century, mansion with private pool perched high on a hillside over looking the Garonne River. 

Large, sunny rooms with high ceilings and elegant proportions, this house is ideal for a French holiday break. The pool is surrounded by a wooden deck perfect for barbecues and breakfast  "en plein-air".

Recently renovated, it offers visitors a fantastic base from which to explore the region and discover the delights of French village life.

Ground Floor

As soon as you enter the front door, your eyes travel down a long corridor towards a glassed in porch that leads to a terrace with a breathtaking view of the river.

  • The open plan kitchen has all mod-cons including a dishwasher and state-of-the art cooker. A generous farmhouse table seats up to 10 in comfort.

A contemporary wood-burning stove separates the kitchen from the sitting room.

  • The sitting room, whether you want to sit and watch a film on the big-screen television or just curl up with a book, the wrap-around sofas invite you to lounge. 
  • One double bedroom and the possibility of a further single bedroom for an additional child if required.

Up the curved staircase are:

  • Two additional large and airy bedrooms. The master bedroom features an elegant marble fireplace and an ensuite bathroom. Just off the upper sunporch is a light-filled double bedroom.

Outside

Just off the kitchen is a door leading to the 4 x 10 meter pool that’s surrounded by wooden decking, potted plants and plenty of poolside seating.

The adjacent terrace has a large table that can seat up to 8. Perfect for barbecues and breakfast en plein aire.

Two long, elegant glassed-in porches stretch the width of the house (one on each floor). They each have commanding views of the surrounding countryside and far below down to the river. On the rare rainy days they offer shelter from the storm.

About Cordes Tolosannes in Tarn-et-Garonne, Midi Pyrenees

Cordes Tolosannes is located 6 kilometres from Castelsarrasin, a busy market town that has all amenities; grocery stores, banks, pharmacies and bakeries for morning croissants. Thursday is market day and vendors fill the streets and the main squares selling everything from fresh goat cheese to waxed tablecloths.

Nearby Moissac boasts one of the most beautiful cloisters in France. An amazing, intact, medieval structure it opened its doors in 1100 AD. The adjacent St Peter’s abbey is a must see with it’s elaborate exterior statues and carvings. Don’t miss the Chagall windows in chapel just next to the knave!

Montauban is the birthplace of one of France’s most famous painters, Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres.  Le Musée Ingres has a superb collection of the master’s drawings and paintings. The town is built around a bustling square lined with cafés and bookshops.

Thirty minutes by car, Toulouse is a delightful, buzzy city filled with students and bursting with life. Music festivals, photographic and art exhibitions fill the summer calendar.

The Midi Pyrenées region is characterised by its rich and varied cuisine. Local delicacies include foie gras, goat cheese, strawberries, sausages and a vast selection of summer fruits. Nearby Agen is the prune capital of France and people throughout the country buy the garlic that comes from Beaumont de Lomagne.  It’s foodie heaven!

We have had a wonderful holiday here.The views from the terrace are breathtaking and the whole area is very beautiful.

The house is wonderful and very well equipped. We would love to came back here again. My 11 year old son had a fantastic time swimming in the pool. Thank you Florence and Philippe you have been very welcoming
