In the heart of the countryside, yet close to everything you need!
Chez Reynaud is located in one of the quaint hamlets that make up the Charentaise villages of Boutenac-Touvent and Brie. Its tranquil setting overlooks the village pond with its resident wild ducks and is a favourite fishing spot for the local kids and is just 20 minutes drive from big sandy beaches. Chez Reynaud has a 4X8 metre heated swimming pool, fenced for privacy and reserved for your private use - the pool is maintained at 27C, perfect for swimming any time of the day. As well as the pool patio there are two other patio areas for your use - the back patio is equipped with a charcoal barbecue.
A traditional 19th century village house it has 4 comfortable bedrooms, a large comfortable living room, a well equipped kitchen and 2 bathrooms comfortably accommodating up to 8 people. The house retains much of its original charm with 200 year old oak beams and cut stone fireplaces - the kitchen fireplace contains the 19th century bread oven which baked the bread for the village in days gone by. A couple of minutes walk brings you to sunflower fields and vineyards, oak woods and pastures where you can ramble for miles on the well tended grass-covered lanes.
Chez Reynaud may be quiet, but it's not isolated! Just a few minutes walk brings you to the local restaurant and pub in the village of Touvent, and during the summer summer months the village hosts a thriving daily market selling bread, cheese, wine, fruit and veg and many more local specialities. A few minutes drive and you are in the beautiful port town of Mortagne-sur-Gironde, which has lots of shops and restaurants as well as a bank and post office.

The heated 8X4 metre oval Swimming Pool is for your exclusive use and is kept at 27C - perfect swimming temperature. The pool patio (plage) is equipped with sunloungers, umbrellas and tables. It is fenced in for privacy and security and has an alarm in accordance with French safety regulations.
There are two patios next to the house adjoining the garden. The front patio has views of the village and pond and the back patio has a charcoal barbecue and is a few metres from the pool. Both patios have a table, chairs and umbrellas.
Although Chez Reynaud is quiet it is not isolated. Boutenac-Touvent is located at the crossroads of two important routes and has a very good restaurant and pub a few minutes walk from Chez Reynaud where you can enjoy fine French cuisine. The village also hosts a thriving market during the summer months selling bread, cheese, wine, fruit and veg and much more.
For shopping and restaurants, it's just 5 minutes to the picturesque port town of Mortagne-sur-Gironde, which also has a bank and post office. Mortagne overlooks the Gironde Estuary and in the distance, the famous Medoc region of Bordeaux. Supermarkets are located 10 minutes away in the towns of Gemozac and Cozes.
From Chez Reynaud you can be on the beautiful sandy beaches at Mechers and St George-de-Didonne in twenty minutes - a few minutes more and your at the famous ‘Plage-Grande-Conche’ (The Big Beach) at Royan. In fact, there are more than 50 listed beaches within an hours drive of Chez Reynaud - some like 'La Cote Sauvage' (45 minutes) are vast and unspoiled and are well known for surfing.
Chez Reynaud is located on the western edge of the Cognac area and there are a number of local distilleries close by where you can sample and buy real old Cognac at incredible prices - in fact, you can visit the town of Cognac itself where the houses Hennessy, Martell, Courvoisier and Rémy Martin are all open to visitors.
Other local attractions include the Zoo de la Palmyre - the largest outdoor zoo in Europe, the Aquarium de La Rochelle, and the Antilles de Jonzac water park. Less than an hour south is the Bordeaux wine producing region where you can tour wineries and buy excellent wine for a few euros - if you love fine wine St Emillion is not to be missed!
The area has numerous medieval villages the most famous being Talmont - considered one of the most beautiful villages in France - just 15 minutes drive away. Nearby is the wonderful town of Saintes, which has a mix of Roman ruins and medieval buildings and a bit further north the historic towns of Rochefort, Brouage, Fouras and beautiful La Rochelle, the capital of Charente-Maritime, its heart almost unchanged since the 17th century. To the south is Blaye and its magnificent Vauban citadel and a few miles further on the city of Bordeaux, capital of South-West France and recently named a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

We had a thoroughly delightful introduction to the Charente Maritime via Chez Reyanud and will certainly recommend both. Your house accommodated us all with ease and was by far and away the most generously supplied villa we've ever rented. We'd also like to mention what super agents you have in David and Jane.

We found Chez Reynaud to be a really comfortable and well equipped house in an extremely picturesque hamlet. All equipment within the house was in excellent order (lots of hot water for showering, etc.) and the living and bedroom furniture was more comfortable than experienced in previous holiday homes. The swimming pool was exceptionally clean and well maintained by David and we used the patio area to eat outdoors for every meal that we ate at home. The barbecue was well positioned next to the patio area.
The neighbours were friendly and welcoming - we were even given some home made jam....

We have had a wonderful stay in Chez Reynaud. It more than met our expectations and you were extremely kind with all the ample provisions. We really are most grateful. All age groups had a good time and we would definitely recommend it to others who are interested.

We thoroughly enjoyed our week and are sorry to be coming home.
Thank you Jane & David for the well stocked cupboards- it was a wonderful welcome and a nice touch not often found in holiday homes. We'll definitely recommend Chez Reynaud to our friends.

We had a fantastic holiday, even though the weather wasn’t so kind to us in the second week.... The accommodation was exactly what we wanted and the pool was just right for us. And the duck pond – we’re now all big duck fans! So often you go on holiday and the description doesn’t match the reality. Not so with Chez Raynaud! The welcome supplies you left for us were incredible, from the wine and food to the soap in the bathroom and washing-up liquid in the kitchen. These small essentials make it so much easier and quicker to settle into your holiday!

We really enjoyed our week and found the house very comfortable and conclusive to "chilling out". We are already thinking about the next time.
