Harbourside B&B on Gironde Estuary between Bordeaux & La Rochelle

We have a harbourside house overlooking the boats and the beautiful country beyond. We are friendly, informal hosts who aim  to provide a relaxed welcome with no restrictions and for our guests to come and go as they please.

Bed & Breakfast Accommodation at Chez Pecheurs

Two charming bedrooms, both overlooking the pretty harbour and boats, one double and one twin bedded room, luxurious bathroom with huge walk-in shower and super size bath.

On the ground floor there is a really comfortable sitting room with a traditional Charentaise fireplace and log fire all leading out on to the tree shaded terrace, ideal for a leisurely breakfast, lunch or evening meals. To the rear is the traditional farmhouse kitchen/diner where informal meals can be taken as required.

About St Fort Sur Gironde in Charente-Maritime, Poitou Charentes

Our harbourside house is set back from the only street of Port Maubert, a charming, tranquil little fishing port which is on the Gironde Estuary between Bordeaux and Royan. Port Maubert is listed as a centre for walking, cycling, sailing, fishing and bird and wildlife observation, good golf courses are available at Royan, Cognac and Saintes. There is an excellent sailing school with professional instructors for all age groups, moorings available for visiting boats.

The nearest small town is St. Fort sur Gironde with a bank and cash point, a good grocers, boulangerie, bar, 2 hairdressers and an iron mongers/general store. The beautiful 12th. cent. church is well worth a visit. The region is famous for producing Oysters and shellfish, Foie Gras, and a wonderful array of fruit and vegetables all available at either the bustling markets in every village and town or the superb cafes, brasseries and restaurants.

Sandy beaches stretch from Meschers to La Rochelle, Saintes (40 mins.drive), History, Architecture and shopping, Royan (30 mins. drive) famous French seaside resort, Cognac (45 mins. drive), Architecture Distilleries, Charente river trips, Bordeaux (60 mins. drive) History, Architecture, Culture, Wine, wine, wine, Shop, shop, shop !

How To Get To St Fort Sur Gironde in Charente-Maritime, South West France

By Air:- to Bordeaux, La Rochelle, (1 hour 15 mins. drive). Poitiers, Limoges, Angouleme (1 hour 40 mins. drive).

By Sea:-  Ferries to St. Malo, Caen, Cherbourg (5 and a half to six hours drive) Calais, Boulogne Dieppe, Ostende (9 and a half to 11 hours drive).

By Road:- If approaching from the North on the A10,take exit 36 to Pons. If approaching from the South on the A 10 take exit 37 to Mirambeau.

By Rail:- to Angouleme (1 hour 40 mins .drive), Bordeaux (1 hour 15 mins. drive).

We will be pleased to provide transport to and from airports and railway stations.

Jenny is a professional cook and we provide 4 course lunches or dinners for 18 euros including wine.

We are happy to collect and return guests to and from airports or railway stations, prices according to distance. We are also happy to act as guides to the vineyards, local markets and other places of interest.
