About the location

This quiet village is on the edge of vast areas of uninhabited rich rolling country, yet close to the busy centre of Uzes, which is rich in history. Within sight of Cotes du Rhone and the Cevennes, the country around the historic stone village of Vallabrix is full of wine, olive and fruit, with Roman and Medieval remains in abundance.

Uzes, 8km away is a beautiful historic centre with a wealth of fine stone buildings, famous Saturday and Wednesday markets, magnificent squares, shops and restaurants. 3km away is the thriving artistic center of St Quentin La Poterie: galleries, Friday market, bakers, butcher, chemist and supermarket.

Highlights are Avignon and Nimes (45 mins), the coast and unique Carmargue with its bulls and flamingoes (1hr 15 mins), Roman monuments and market at Arles (50 mins), the Pont du Gard, swimming in the Gard 12 mins away, walking and cycling in empty countryside; many towns rich in local arts and crafts, excellent wine, food. Everything that is best of quiet and active Southern France.

How to get here

• Airports at Nimes, Avignon, Montpelier. 
• TGV train from St Pancras to Avignon - a wonderful way to travel. 
• Car is essential but serious cyclists easily access house and shops.
• If coming by plane or train, hire cars at stations and airports.
• Buses for teenagers in and out of Uzes, Avignon or Nimes morning and afternoon.
