Holiday Accommodation at Les Lis

Les Lis is a 400 to 500 year old medieval stone house in the South of France that perches on the edge of the small town place in St-Bresson on top of a 7 km hill. The house is well appointed and comprises:

  • A fully equipped American style kitchen
  • A separate living room
  • A separate dining room
  • 3 double bedrooms
  • 1 bathroom
  • 2 terraces

The house is laid out over 4 half floors. On the first floor are the living room, kitchen and bathroom. The dining room is on its own level. Two of the bedrooms are on their own level. The third bedroom (called the Writer’s Room on our web) is accessed through ladder-type stairs in the living room. The top terrace is also accessed through these stairs and this room.

Both terraces have tables and chairs to sit 6. The top terrace also has two wooden loungers. The second terrace is accessed from the living room or down a few steps from the dining room.

All of the furniture is good quality (no rickety rental furniture here) and the living room furniture is leather. The dining room table can seat 10. There is original art throughout the house.

There is a designated parking spot next to the garage directly across from the kitchen door.

About St Bresson in Gard, Languedoc Roussillon

St Bresson is a small medieval village located in the Languedoc-Roussillon region, in the department of the Gard, on the southern edge of the magnificent Cévennes mountains and national park.

The town is perched atop a 7 km hill. From the distance it appears all siena and gold from the stone and stucco walls and the antique tiles roofs. The village is made up of ancient stone houses, a few ruins, a handful of new villas and a church.

Perched as it is on the top of the hill, the village has a panoramic view of the valleys below. Gardens are terraced into the hillside.

There are four supermarkets within a 10 to12 minute drive from the house, two in the town of Le Vigan, and two in the town of Ganges. We’ve been told (though we haven’t tried it) that upon request bread and other basic supplies can be brought to the village by the postman. A short drive down a picturesque and windy road will take you to the bottom of the hill, where the river runs through the small village of St.-Laurent-le-Minier.

There is a popular bathing spot for locals and tourists alike at the Cascade de la Vis, with several waterfalls and a deep cavern, which allows the bravest to dive into the water from a medieval arched bridge.

See Local guide and map for information on nearby towns and facilities.

How To Get To St Bresson in Gard, South of France and the Riviera

As you exit the airport, turn right. At the first roundabout, take the second exit, toward Pérols. At the next roundabout, take the first exit toward Montpellier Centre Ville.

When you see the Hotel Mercure on your left, look for the signs for Ganges-Lodève. Follow the signs for Ganges through the complicated streets of downtown Montpellier. Follow the D986 out of Montpellier, toward Ganges. You will be on this road, which passes through the chapparal-style garrigues, for approximately 30 km.

After you pass through the towns of Saint Bauzille de Putois and Laroque, you will enter the town of Ganges. At the first roundabout in Ganges, take the third exit (toward SuperU and Le Vigan).

Go to next roundabout (there is a large waterwheel in the middle of the roundabout), take the third exit and pass over the Hérault River on a narrow bridge toward the town of Cazilhac. At the end of the bridge, turn right and follow the road about 5- 10 km until you reach the sign for the town of St-Laurent-Le-Minier.

Turn right on the D110, crossing the river again at the bathing area. Follow this road until you reach the bottom of the hill and signs for St. Bresson. Turn left and ascend a spectacular winding road for about 7 km. The road is quite steep and narrow, so be alert for vehicles coming the other way. At the crest of the hill, turn right into St-Bresson.

See Local guide and map for information on nearby towns and airports.
