Beautiful Stone Farmhouse with Exclusive Pool, Garden and River View

Las Peyrieres is a sympathetically converted stone farmhouse with a private and exclusive swimming pool. It is situated in a peaceful hamlet, has a large garden, and a view of the river Aveyron as it slowly sweeps by.

This lovely farmhouse is in a peaceful and private location, and is ideal for a family or a group of friends who wish to have a relaxing escape, while not being too far from local towns and villages.

Holiday Accommodation at Las Peyrieres

The living accommodation is spacious and simply but sympathetically decorated. There is a very well-equipped modern kitchen, a huge open-plan living room and dining area, plenty of seating space, and three double bedrooms upstairs. There are also two bathrooms. Most importantly of all, perhaps, there is an attractive sun-terrace adjoining the kitchen, and a private swimming pool with terraces around it to soak up the French sunshine.

The house is arranged over three floors, with the bedrooms and one bathroom upstairs, the living room and kitchen on the ground floor, and another bathroom and utility room on the lower floor.

  • The kitchen (18m²) is a very light room with a wooden-beamed ceiling, tiled floor, and French doors opening out onto the tiled sun terrace, with all of its aromatic plants and herbs. As well as having all the dining equipment you'll need, there is a gas cooker (with electric oven), a fridge/freezer, a coffee maker, kettle and toaster. There are also plenty of work surfaces, and a breakfast table and chairs. With the doors open and the warmth and sunshine of the French summer streaming in, this is a very pleasant room in which to spend time. If you really can't face English-style cooking, there's a barbecue too.
  • The living room (50m²) is a spacious and characterful room, with its authentic stone evier, and a wood-burning stove. Like the kitchen, this room is very light with windows to the front and the back (towards the pool), and has shutters, exposed beams and a wooden floor. A large wooden table seats 6-8 people comfortably.

On the first floor there is a landing, leading to:

  • The main bedroom (33m²) with a double bed and some beautiful original roof carpentry. There are bedside tables and lamps, a large cupboard and rail for clothes, and a full length mirror.
  • There is a further double bedroom (13m²) with a window to the front garden, chest of drawers and clothes rail.
  • The bathroom has a washbasin, a bath (with shower attachment), a WC and a linen cupboard.
  • The third bedroom (22m²) has three single beds, ideal for children. The room has character with its exposed beams, and has a window overlooking the sun terrace.

On the lower floor, there is:

  • A further bathroom with a shower, WC and washbasin.
  • The large utility area has a washing machine, a tumble dryer and ironing facilities.

Outside

The grounds are a mix of grass, paths and trees, with ample space to relax in the peace and quiet of the beautiful countryside. Children can explore and play - there is a large trampoline and table tennis. The swimming pool is 9 metres by 6, and is located in front of the house down some rustic stone steps. Adjacent to the pool there is a large wooden sunbathing deck, which gets the sun right up until sunset. There are plenty of sunloungers and chairs. The access to the pool may be difficult for the elderly or very small children.
Our gardener will attend to the pool, and maintain the garden as necessary whilst you are there. Please note that, being an old stone farmhouse, there are some low beams upstairs: taller people will need to be careful.

About Varen in Tarn, Midi Pyrenees

The house is located in a peaceful riverside hamlet near the popular mediaeval villages of Saint Antonin Noble ValCordes-sur-Ciel and Laguepie. While the immediate locality is tranquil and relaxing, a short drive will bring you to many other places of interest.

The Tarn is a beautiful and unspoilt region, where the relaxed style and pace of life can almost take you back in time. It is blessed with natural oak forests, rivers, gorges, valleys, rolling hills, architectural masterpieces, and an abundance of flora and fauna.

Las Peyrieres is within 20 minutes drive of Saint Antonin Noble Val, a beautiful mediaeval town which, as well as being visually stunning, is also a fascinating place to explore. On a practical level, it has a bustling Sunday food market as well as bars and restaurants, two small supermarkets, a bank, post office, pharmacies, art galleries, and even a cinema with regular English films. As you would expect, it also has excellent boulangeries and patisseries.

Most nearby villages and towns also boast open air markets with an abundance of just about every kind of fresh local produce - including wine of course. Some of the regular seasonal village fêtes and fairs are a treat too.

Cordes-sur-Ciel (15 mins drive) is a breathtaking 13th Century bastide. A walk to the very top is well worth the effort for the views alone, as well as the selection of shops, galleries, bars and fine restaurants.

Albi (40 mins drive) is the birthplace of the famous artist Toulouse-Lautrec, and with a superb museum holding hundreds of his works. Sainte Cecile Cathedral is a dominating architectural highlight. The town centre is a lovely place to spend a day in the cafes and restaurants.

Toulouse (80 mins drive) or "La Ville Rose" is the 4th largest city in France with many historically important buildings, art galleries, two splendid cathedrals, and the museum of contemporary art, Les Abatoirs. There is also the Space Museum at the huge Cite de l'Espace.

How To Get To Varen in Tarn, South West France

There are three airports located within reach of Las Peyrieres – these are Toulouse, Carcassonne and Rodez and you can fly there with Ryanair, British Airways, Air France and EasyJet. Each one is about a two hour flight from Gatwick or Stansted. Car hire is readily available at each airport.

Alternatively you can drive from the UK, which takes about 11 hours from Calais. There are a number of routes you could take, but we would recommend heading south from Paris towards Caussade on the A20 motorway. Should you wish to break up your journey, we can recommend some hotels along the way.
