Relaxing Holidays Under the Gaze of Picturesque Roussillon
In the centre of a small Provencal hamlet, surrounded by vineyards and almond trees, La Magnanièro ('silk farm' in Provencal) provides an oasis of calm and relaxation. Dating from 1832 the property has been simply and tastefully renovated to a high standard whilst retaining its original features, allowing the visitor to sample a real taste of Provence in complete comfort and relaxation.
Roussillon, a popular tourist village and classed second of all the 'plus beau villages de la France' is an easy 8 minute drive, or a more strenuous uphill cycle ride! The property is ideally placed for visiting all of the region's most popular sites of interest including; Gordes, Bonnieux and other local 'villages perchés', the Luberon National Park, Avignon, Les Beaux, the Pont du Gard, the towns of the Mediterranean coast and lakes and mountains of the Alpes de Haute-Provence.
The scenic outdoor pool of St Saturnin is less than 10 minutes away. Restaurant aficionados are spoilt for choice with many excellent establishments within easy reach. If a more leisurely holiday is what you seek then La Magnanièro provides the perfect haven for rest and relaxation; soak up the sun with a good book in the front courtyard and enjoy long leisurely lunches and starlit dinners on the patio.
Holiday Accommodation at La Magnanièro
La Magnanièro is a self contained, private home offering a rural retreat for families, couples or groups of friends, deep within the picturesque heart of the Luberon valley. The house itself has been lovingly and painstakingly restored and includes:
Downstairs
- Entrance hall with seating area.
- Kitchen: a brand new fitted kitchen with electric cooker, microwave and dishwasher and all the crockery and cookware necessary for a comfortable stay.
- Dining room with seating for 6.
- Salon with plentiful board games, lego, jigsaws etc, TV (video/DVD playback only) and DVD and video player.
- Laundry/store room equipped with a washing machine, ironing board and iron.
Upstairs
- Refurbished bathroom including a victorian style claw-footed bath and separate over-sized shower with a large 'rain' shower head.
- Single bedroom with antique single bed frame and views to the East.
- Second single bedroom with antique single bed looking South at the front of the house.
- King bedroom also looking South at the front of the house.
We can provide a cot if needed. The sofa in the Salon converts into a comfortable double sofa-bed. Throughout the house are the original tiled floors which help maintain a cool interior in the heat of the summer. The top floor is not included in the rental of this property. The top floor may be accessed up the stairs but the rooms will all be locked.
Outside
Outside there is a large fenced, gravelled courtyard providing a safe place for children to play, and a quiet spot for sunbathing or for relaxing with a good book. We provide 2 sun loungers and parasol and a charcoal barbeque, table and chairs for long Provencal lunches and dinners under the stars. An additional feature is the original well in the corner of the garden - this has a locked door for safety. Whilst the property does not have its own pool we are a short, easy drive (around 8-10 minutes) from the great outdoor pool at St Saturnin - a favourite place for our two children.
Being in the centre of the hameau there is very little traffic and so it is usually very peaceful. Our neighbours are locals and so there will be the usual comings and goings and the sound of tractors being driven to the vineyards on occasion. In addition, we would ask that guests respect the peacful surroundiings and keep noise to a minimum later in the evening so as not to disturb our neighbours. The property managers (our parents) are English and live next door and will be happy to assist with enquiries.
Note
La Magnanièro is an old property with a winding, tiled staircase and low window ledges. Children must be supervised at all times. We do not have a stair-gate as it would be impossible to fit one on the old wrought iron bannister and so the property is not ideally suited for families with toddlers because of this.

My husband and I and a friend were travelling together with our eight year old granddaughter. This was the perfect place for us to spend a week in the countryside of Provence. We took excursions for a part of every day, but also left some time to enjoy the house which from the outside and surroundings of the tiny hamlet, gave the sense of being somewhere ancient. But inside everything was modern and comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked for doing our own food preparation and a large grocery story was about 15 -20 minutes away in Apt. (and Oh, My! the Saturday market at Apt is not to be missed; what variety and charm). In a little storage room there was a table that we took out to the yard for dinner on some evenings. It was fun to be outside enjoying the view of that old stone house. Our granddaughter enjoyed reading through the many English language books of the owner's children. She had fun with the bicycle and we all enjoyed evening walks past farms, fields and neighbours' goats. Our excursions took us to many hilltop villages which dot the area. We particularly enjoyed the nearest one, only 10 minutes away, Roussillon - a red stone village with a very interesting hour long walk available at the edge of town, through ocher cliffs and forest. One day we took a longer excursion to Lake St. Croix which was a couple of hours away but a beautiful drive and worth it in the destination. At the lake you can hire peddle boats with slides... very popular with our granddaughter. The lake is surrounded by wonderful mountains and there is a snack bar near the parking at the beach. At the end of every great day we were happy to end up in the tiny hamlet that we called home.

Our group of 3 adults and a 9-year old child spent a delightful week in La Magnanièro. There was plenty of space for all of us, particularly in the well equipped kitchen/dining room. As the weather was hot, we appreciated having stone floors and high ceilings. All of us slept soundly when we weren't listening to the owls. We also enjoyed having breakfast and dinner in the front garden when the temperature was cool enough. And the delightful neighbours could not have been friendlier.
The hamlet of Les Yves was an excellent base for our gentle walks through the surrounding countryside as well as for visits to the small market town of Rousillon and the larger centres of tourism and shopping at Gordes, Apt, St Saturnin-lès-Apt and Bonnieux.

A brilliant and relaxing holiday in a stylish and beautifully appointed home. The house offered a blend of charm, comfort, convenience and practicality. Our hosts could not have been more welcoming and helpful, filling us in in the history of the village and sharing their knowledge of the best places to visit and eat out. The house proved to be an excellent base for exploring the local ' perched villages' with their vibrant markets and wealth of local produce, and the countryside offered many stimulating and attractive walks. Tranquil evening meals in the courtyard garden as dusk fell provided the perfect end to every day.
