Charming Provencal House, Garden & Pool

Welcome to La Grange des Beaussiers, a holiday home for six people situated in a small, quiet hameau near the market town of Apt in the Luberon, Provence.

'La Grange' is the ideal holiday home from which to explore Provence, if however, your requirement is total relaxation this is the perfect environment to recharge your batteries - all year round. The house and garden are cleverly designed to provide all modern comforts yet retaining their original charm and character.

Holiday Accommodation at Charming Provencal House, Garden & Pool

This traditional stone grange dating from 1902 has been lovingly converted into a beautiful Provencal house (120m²). Surrounded by lavender fields and situated in the heart of the spectacular protected Parc National du Luberon in the heart of the Vaucluse, this charming property enjoys beautiful views across the valley towards the famous Grand Luberon mountain and the pretty hill-top village of Saignon.

Inside

The house sleeps 6, with two double bedrooms with adjoining bathrooms and another double bed on the mezzanine level overlooking the sitting room area. Both main bedrooms have French doors leading out onto terraces, each with their own table and chairs overlooking the pool and gardens.

The living space is a large open plan area with high ceilings and exposed wooden beams. One enters into the delightful, well-equipped kitchen and indoor dining area. This leads onto the sitting room space with a fully working traditional Provencal fireplace. French doors open onto a shaded terrace for outside dining and relaxing, beyond this, the pool and views of the lavender fields and mountains beyond.

The house is a private home owned by a leading dealer in the Irish art world and as such, has been lovingly furnished with carefully chosen antiques, traditional Provencal furniture, fine art and well-loved treasures from around the globe. Luxury linen, towels and fabrics have been used throughout the house and the kitchen is well stocked with enough cutlery, plates, glasses and cooking utensils to satisfy even the most discerning of cooks. Appliances are all new and to the highest standard.

Outside

The house is surrounded by approximately one acre of beautiful terraced gardens. The upper terrace has olive, cherry, plum, fig and almond trees, and a beautiful rose-covered pergola perfect for an aperitif at sunset.

The swimming pool, which is fed by its own water source, is partially surrounded by limestone walls and has a poolside shower. The pool-side terrace is south-facing, so is the perfect spot for sun bathing. Wooden sun loungers, a parasol and an antique day-bed sit on the terrace surrounding the pool, which leads onto a large lawned area with more fruit trees, flowers and shrubs.

Dining al fresco is possible on the wisteria and vine-covered terrace, with large gas BBQ and seating for 8 people. As with the interior, the garden furniture has been carefully chosen with style and comfort in mind.

About St Martin De Castillon in Vaucluse, Provence - Cote d'Azur

La Grange is the perfect place to enjoy the Provence of your dreams. The area is famous for its lavender fields, cherry orchards and vineyards, not to mention all of the wonderful museums, galleries and historical places of interest scattered throughout the region.

A few minutes from the house (3km) perched on the hilltop lies the pretty village of St Martin de Castillon, which has a bar, restaurant, post office and epicerie (small supermarket). The nearest largest town is Apt (7km) which is renowned for its weekly Saturday market with over 300 stalls selling a spectacular selection of local produce and typical market goods. Apt is a labyrinth of narrow streets containing an unusual mix of cafés, galleries, shops and restaurants.

One of the most beautiful villages in Provence, Lourmarin, is only 25 mins drive away and is now home to the world famous author Peter Mayle. Mayle wrote ‘A Year in Provence’ and the screenplay for ‘A Good Year’ which was filmed in the Luberon and starred Russell Crowe.

Other famous villages worth visiting nearby include Saignon, Goult, Gordes, Bonnieux and Roussillon (all of which have their own traditional markets) and Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, which is famous throughout the world for its antique markets and brocantes.

This whole region has a wide variety of cultural activities and picturesque markets throughout the year, something for everyday of the week. A bit further afield are the Roman towns of Aix-en-Provence, Nimes, Arles and of course the papal city of Avignon, which are all a short drive away. The famous and exciting port city of Marseille is only one and a half hours away by car.

There are many good local bistros and local eateries to suit every pocket within 10-15 mins drive from the house and the highly recommended Michelin-starred hotel and restaurant 'Le Capalongue' is close by in Bonnieux (expensive!) The region's vineyards produce plenty of excellent wine which can be bought locally.
