About Abeilhan in Hérault, Languedoc Roussillon

What we have is a small wine producing village in between Montpellier and Beziers, close to the It is a typical small Languedoc Herault village. It's history dates back 2900 years with the Romans, but it was in 995 that the fortified castle of Abeilhan was built. This has since been destroyed, however the 11th century Church and "circulades"- the fortified walls and houses built around the castle - still stand.

Property has parking outside.

The village is a quality wine producer and visiting the five main domaines and the cave cooperative for tastings is an experience not to be missed.

With two boulangeries, a restaurant, bar, tabac, post office, library, doctor and pharmacy also a local vegetable stall the village has lots of ammenties.

Nearest large supermarket at Servian 3 miles, 5 minutes by car.

For many further excellent local restaurants visit Margon, Magalas and Pezanas. In Pezanas, Wednesday and Friday night market stalls for food and wine tastings in July and August and artisan shops open in the old town in the evenings all through the summer months.

The chic, historic city of Beziers is not to be missed for a fabulous day out, visit the grand abbey, with superb views of the river Orb.

A half an hour drive will take you to Vias Beach one direction, or the river Orb for swiming or cannoeing in land.

15 minutes Canal Midi for boat trips, cycling or walking.

The walled city of Carcassonne is a must day out, with many, many restaurants and shops also.

The Cathar castles for further exploring.

Guest Reviews Of French Village Experience

The house was beautiful....classic French shutters, elegant staircase etc. It is spacious, light and well furnished and even more than we had hoped for. The village is well placed with good access to beaches and surrounding area. There was a nice little playground for our three year old twins to enjoy. There was a very helpful contact who met us on our arrival and made us all feel very comfortable.

We have visited the property a number of times. It is a beautiful traditional French house set in a lovely village square. The location is excellent for flights to Montpellier and Bezier for short breaks and easily accessible by car for longer visits. The surrounding area is off the beaten tourist track making it ideal for a true French experience. There is plenty to do to keep you occupied for a 2 week break.

Stayed last September can't wait to go again this year............already booked.

Great location, with beach not that far away, added bonus bar /restaurant next door.

What a fantastic house! Huge rooms, beautiful furnishings, equipped with everything you could ever need with a real family feel...we particularly loved the huge (and enormously comfortable) beds, the wonderful ambiance and the fantastic balcony which always has a shady corner to enjoy a glass of wine whilst appreciating the vineyards that stretch out to the horizon. I can honestly say that the pictures really don't do it justice!

The village itself is really friendly and very French. Don't miss the chance to relax with the locals and enjoy a meal at the Bar des Sports next door! Nearby towns like Pezenas are worth several visits while the coast is nearby and quite lovely.
