Les Marchis is a grand stone-built 16th century maison de maitre, perfect for a relaxed and private family holiday.

Peaceful rural position with a large sunny garden and open views across fields of sunflowers. Lots of local wildlife, including hawks, hoopoes and red squirrels, and many activities advertised in the local tourist office and the Courcome monthly newsletter.

This delightful property comfortably accommodates 7 people and comprises:

Ground Floor

  • Large living room with original chestnut floor and stone fireplace. TV (freeview), DVD, VHS and record player, CD players (in several rooms). Lots of books, DVDs, records.
  • Large dining room with original stone fireplace.
  • A large kitchen and pantry with dishwasher, gas hob and electric oven, microwave, fridge and freezer.
  • Utility room with washing machine, plus shower and WC.

Authentic Charentaise staircase leads to:

First Floor

  • Three large bedrooms all facing south with lovely views.

Bedroom one with double bed and en suite with shower and WC, bedroom two with double bed, bedroom three with three single beds.

  • Family bathroom with bath, shower and WC.

There is full oil-fired central heating, double glazing and shutters to all windows.

About Courcome in Charente, Poitou Charentes

Ruffec (ten minutes away) is a pretty market town (two markets each week) on the Charente, with all facilities. There are other numerous beautiful villages nearby, with excellent restaurants. Rouillac's enormous monthly market (on 27th of every month) is worth visiting.

This area is part of the Compostella route, so every village has a Romanesque church. There are also interesting Roman and prehistoric sites in the region (including an amazing amphitheatre at St Cybardeaux). The tourist offices are full of leaflets and programmes of events of all cultural interests over the summer months - you never need be bored.

The famous town of Cognac and the wine regions with their famous distilleries (Martell, Hennessy, Remy Martin, etc.) are within easy reach. The coast is 75 mins to the west.

How To Get To Courcome in Charente, South West France

Airports at Poitiers (45 mins), Limoges (75 mins) La Rochelle (75 mins), Bordeaux (75 mins) and Bergerac (2 hours). Some trains from Paris stop at Ruffec, and many at Angouleme (30 mins away).

 

Driving south on the N10 from Poitiers, continue past the exit for Ruffec and turn off at the sign for Villegats. Directions from Villegats will be given when booking is made.
