About Salignac-Eyvigues in Dordogne, Aquitaine

Close to Sarlat in the heart of the most famous Black Périgord, the property is situated in the southeast of the department around the big valleys of the Dordogne and the Vezère. It is also sometimes referred to as the region of the 1001 chateaux. Part of the Aquitaine region in Southwest France, just an hour’s drive to the east of Bordeaux, Dordogne Périgord is one of the largest and most picturesque départements in French, as well as being one of the most prolific in terms of its number of listed historic buildings.

In addition to its many castles and manor houses, this region also boasts many prehistoric caves including the famous cave of Lascaux.

Here you will discover unspoilt nature, grandiose landscapes and a plethora of magical sights teeming with history. The prehistoric deposits and caves in the Vezère valley, which bear witness to the presence of man in the Dordogne for the past 450,000 years; castles from the Middle Ages and Renaissance periods, testimony to the Hundred Years’ War and Wars of Religion that raged here (45 castles in the Périgord are open to the public); medieval villages full of character (10 of which are officially listed among the "Plus beaux villages de France" (France’s Most Beautiful Villages)); romanesque churches adorned with sculpted tympanums; water mills in the romantic landscapes of the Périgord Vert; and renowned "towns of art and history" such as Sarlat and Périgueux.

For gastronomy lovers, it is the paradise of the truffle, the ceps, goose fat and duck. The Périgord is also envied the world over for the splendours of its traditional gastronomy. High-quality products used in the preparation of its local cuisine include foie gras, other duck- and goose-based ingredients, the famous black truffles of the Périgord, chestnuts, walnuts (which have been awarded their own Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée (AOC) label), and Périgord strawberries, not forgetting the wines of Bergerac (13 of which are AOC), produced from top grape varieties on land that neighbours the "grands crus classés" of Bordeaux.

The 4 colours of the Périgord (Green, White, Black and Purple) are an invitation to discover the diversity of the region’s landscapes on a variety of holidays.

Whatever the time of year, choosing to visit and return to the Dordogne is not just a journey back in time in the footsteps of our ancestors, it is also an opportunity to meet our friendly inhabitants and to enjoy a relaxing holiday and wonderful cuisine in quiet, authentic and unspoilt natural surrounding.
